Back running with a tyre around my waist. And this weather ain’t helping one bit. Too fucking hot! Also had the kettlebells back out in the garden. Done a week or so of fasting and keto. Cut out all alcohol for a month.

Had cut chocolate right out…. But then got some for Father’s Day and like the habitual smack addict – I put it in a drawer and said I wasn’t touching it. I’ve literally nailed the lot this week. Even sticking Toblerone into a smoothie yesterday!!

Had a break from the diet last night/today. First bread in a fortnight. Sausage butty with brown sauce!

Following a few people on insta now and they’re (rightly) go on about being in a calorie deficit to lose weight and to take on X amount of protein. Taking on 180g of protein a day is harder than training!

What's keto? I'm presuming it's not ketamine!

Did park run this morning. The heat combined with my diet this last week proper did for me.  Back on it now until the season starts, hopefully I can lose at least a stone.

Ketosis. Pretty much cutting out all carbs. No bread, sugar, rice, pasta, potatoes, crisps, etc, etc. Lot of salad!

I’ve definitely been in calorie deficit. As for the protein - its hard. Lot of chicken and peanut butter!

Also have loads of protein  yoghurts/mousse/pancakes in. Well worth getting some in

I’ve been walking around 8-10 km a day (mon -frid) and I feel much better

also cutting the bread out is a big one, I had a few wraps the other day and my stomach swelled for about 24hours like I was pregnant😀

8 pounds down since the start of the month. Happy with that. No boozing has helped, I’m sure, but that’ll go for a Burton once the new season starts. Been finding myself pretty satisfied with a wrap for dinner with a banana, apple and Aldi french fries crisps. Switching to a veg pasta this week though just to mix it up a bit.

Did Southport half today as the first stage of the tour of Merseyside. Another 39 miles in 5 races between now and Saturday. I want a better hobby

An inspiration to us all 👏 my Facebook memory for today was running the guided busway in less than an hour for years ago. Not sure I’d even be able to stand up for the length of the busway nowadays on an actual bus.

Get back on it. I’ve had a guilt free roast now and off for some pints shortly 😁😁

as long as I can remember, I've weighed 14 stone or over (196lb)

normally at the turn of the year I'll be between 200-204lb

and get down to around 194 maybe, but not much less

still set myself a daft target of 13 stone / 182lb just to see if I can, but without really trying

been upping the exercise last few weeks, and rarely drinking, weekends at best, but by far the driest period of my drinkign life

new weekly regime is 10k run, 1 hour cardio session, swim, 5k run, 1 hour session (with lots of stretching chucked in)

weighed in this morning at exactly 190lb

clearly booze is key, but with the right diet and carry on doing what I'm doing exercise wise I reckon I can get to 182

except I'm about to have 10 days off and definitely won't be exercising, and eating out more, be some nights on the booze but in any case, I won't be getting under into the 180s just yet

but reckon that's my post christmas aim

The only thing I've found that lifts the weight is running. Finally back on it after a couple of years away as lost the will to do it.

Started back on bike, then 2km on the rowing and then 5k on the running machine at the gym. Did my first road 5k yesterday - slow as fuck but don't care.

Rest day today so just going for a quick swim with the middle kid after work.

Started running sensibly now instead of trying to beat my previous days pace every day. 80/20 (80% slow 20% fast over a week) runs and going off my heart rate and I’ve already noticed a considerable improvement. Still addicted to chocolate which isn’t helping my diet but starting to take on shit loads more protein which has helped me lose a few lbs.

See that's what I was doing and it just became a chore - wsn't happy if I wasn't posting a 20 min or sub 20 min 5k when I was just doing shorter run or going out even in snow as I'd proper beat myself up if I missed a day. The worst was doing those x miles in a month medals - became obssesed, did well over the mileage - went down to 12 stone (I'm normally around 15/16) mrs said I looked ill. Ran like that over a couple of years, posted some good times and was about to join a club as my times for my age were good enough but by the end wasn't enjoyng it and stupidly just quit because of it instead of taking in down and enjoying it.

So this time I'm going to plod, do it for fitness - I'd like to lose a stone at least, rather than trying to best myself all the time and not book any races for a very long time. Still felt odd doing a 5k in 30 mins yesterday though, but going to keep at it and try and get to around the 25 min mark and stay there.

I've given up on times

without checking the exact number on strava from about 5 years ago, my pb for a 10k is around 51/52 mins

I'm generally happy if I get under 58 mins for 10k and 27 mins for 5k

recently I struggle to get under 1 hour / 30 mins

so now it's just about doing 15k a week and anything under those times is a bonus

I know I can do sub 25m 5ks on a treadmill because I was back in March, but fuck the gym, I can't be bothered with it anymore

Really frustrating at first trying to keep in a heart rate zone, you have to walk parts to maintain the correct HR. However in the space of 6 weeks I’ve gone from around 10min 50 miles to 9mins 30. On my fast days I’ll usually aim for around 23:30 to 24 mins for a 5k.

21.40 is my PB for a 5k park run 8/9 months ago. Sitting around 24/25 now.

On a separate note reading more and more concerning stuff about these protein diets of late. Apparently a lot of heavy / toxic metals in these powders and isolates. Which includes the bars & yogurts etc. Obviously getting enough protein is dead important but been trying to stick to the natural sources. Can feel it in my gut after the powders. Shelled Hemp is a good one for putting in smoothies & breakfast oats, just hard to find cheap.

Me and the Mrs have piled it on and are both feeling fed up about it. Too much drinking. Then snacking. And portion sizes have been too big. I’ve been back to finishing off my daughters meals. Last week in the Lakes every time she’d get a snack, so would I. Every time she got an ice cream so would I. Every time she couldn’t finish her ice cream, I jumped in there and finished it for her. Add to that waffles, sticky toffee pudding, etc, etc.

Off to Majorca for 9 nights next week. I will make the effort to run at least 4 days. Maybe push for a few more if it’s not impacting on the family. Thankfully we aren’t all-inclusive. So I’ve no excuses for eating in between meal times. And won’t be having a Bailey chocolate shake around the pool - just because.

I’m less bothered about times when running, but do keep an eye on things, see how I’m fairing. But not massively pushing myself.

Did swing a few kettlebells this morning and put my back out. Fuckin’ killing me now.
