The 1978 promotion season did anybody go to the Blackpool vs Blackburn game after our scheduled game at Oldham was called off?

We went over and was in their paddock when it kicked off in the Blackpool end; after the police gained control about 150-200 were being moved to the Blackburn end and as they passed us I noticed a few of them - they were Bolton. Only took a minute before it kicked off in the Blackburn end and the police had a cordon round them for the whole game

Went to all the ones shown including that night at Huddersfield. Really was an incredible following. Probably the first time I realised that the ‘potential’ that people talked about was actually real.

unfortunately the potential has never materialised , and never will , the public of Bolton are fickle as fuck

Only a few hundred at Bournemouth which I did go to but great atmosphere

Bit like Southend in League 1 when we won 1-0 with that late goal

I think that Southend game showed we've still got it in us for long distance midweekers, we're just one of them clubs where the going has to be good but that's no different to 90% of the other teams.

Some of the absolutely legendary days out of 2 seasons ago have been forgotten about or sidelined a bit by recent events, we took loads everywhere and will again.

Felgate was wank

one of the best away games been to despite the score

Going from ecstasy at Darby's 'winner' to that mistake. It felt like I'd been whacked in the guts with a sledgehammer.

Got sprayed with cs gas on the train journey down there & rolled back into Bolton at 4am. Was up for work at 7!!

I think our away following is still excellent it’s our home crowds that disappoint me especially after that season when we had biggest home average gates since the 50s and we never capitalised on that and it’s been a steady decline since.

Has to be one of the best long distance followings for a night game ever.

Helped massively by the foresight of whoever chartered the train. No way would that many have gone the same distance on a coach. It was just a pisser that the return journey was via outer mongolia or somewhere.
Someone in our carriage had one of those tiny televisions and we got to see just how bad Felgate's error had been. Fucking hell, he could have headed that away!

The police escort from train station was an awesome sight, what exactly happened at Birmingham station?

The Birmingham incident occurred on the way down. A message came through the carriage speakers from the guard stating that, as we'd made good speed thus far and were about twenty minutes ahead of schedule, we'd sit at the platform at New Street for twenty minutes.

About ten minutes into the wait, with the lads in the forward coaches getting restless, they started having a go at a black lad sat at the platform with his briefcase. I think probably a bit of race-related songs were being sung so the lad calmly put his case on his lap, opened up the locks and took from it a can of CS gas. Walked over to the open window of one of the carriages and sprayed the entire tin through the window. Lads were running through our carriage with eyes running.

Karma at its best. Would have been funny as fuck to see that

I was on the train but didn’t see what happened but heard it involved a black lad, strange he was carrying CS gas.

No, I don't have a clue why he'd be carrying CS spray either. but it's better than walking to the window pretending to have a can of gas, putting his hand to the window and shouting Gas-Gas-Gas and, for a bit of realism, the Bolton fans in the carriage played along with it.

Wasn’t funny at the time being at the end of the carriage and nothing at all to do with the incident. I’d be quite happy to never be near CS gas again
