Like quite a few on here I imagine, it was a 2-0 win against Wimbledon in 1983.

Just five years before that we were averaging over 20k in the second division.

I think that was my 1st, dad took me on the embankment, manny rd north side

York at home 71-72 season (or was it 72-73?) - we lost 1-0

First ever game. Manny Road Stand

Smell of the grass, which was green, and everything was in colour, unlike the footy on TV. Amazing

Well, if it was York, it wasn't 72-3

72-3 we beat York  and Brentford in the last two home games of the season

They were my first 2 games

Yep. A big day of adjustment. Less than 4,000 on at Burnden. We had our first sight of a very inexperienced side. Warren Joyce, Steve Saunders, Simon Rudge, Brian Borrows, Neil Redfearn (Steve Thompson came along a few games later and Wayne Foster was still around). Experience came in the sturdy shape of Gerry McElhinney with Peter Valentine his centre back partner, Ray Deakin at left back and Jeff Chandler out wide. Our new star striker signing - Tony Caldwell from Horwich RMI !

My memory of that game is that we got hammered by a freshly promoted Wimbledon in the first half and somehow got to half time at 0-0. In the second half we got on the front foot and looked decent.

As far as I can tell there's no footage of Bolton anywhere from that 83/4 season. Terrestrial TV had no interest in a washed up old founder member of the league and it was 12-18 months before a camera first appeared at Burnden via Roadrunner and their predecessor. Would be glad to be told otherwise.

I had a season ticket 82/83 and didn't renew and i didn't attend the first few matches of 83/84. Tony Caldwell's exploits enticed me back, off the top of my head the first match i can remember is a 2-2 home draw with Preston. The crazy corner types went in the Lever End seats at that time which is where me and my school mates went.It didn't take long to get hooked on BWFC again. by Xmas i travelled to the Wigan and Sheff Utd away games.

I think the only footage I’ve seen of any game that season may have been the 1-0 win against Wigan at their place on Boxing Day.

Certainly was a piss poor mediocre season, with the vast majority of the highlights coming off the pitch.

That's certainly my memory as well.  I recall Dave Bassett bemoaning his sides luck afterwards.  Did Farnworth save a penalty in the first half?

The right hand side of that 4-4-2 was Eric Snookes  at full back with Steve Saunders ahead of him.  I don't think either of them were still with us by the seasons end.

It was 71 (Aug or Sep) - my Mum just told me it was my last year at Primary School and I was deemed old enough to go to the match

Crewe.

With next 2 matches lively with violence if memory serves he right

Yep - Crewe, then Swansea or Cardiff - won both - got giddy and went to Scarborough and we got dicked

Was living in Warrington at the time and my mate was in Liverpool so did more aways than homes that season but seem to remember the aways were loads of draws and losses

One of the standout seasons for me though. First company car (Astra) and leathered it following the whites just because I could. Wish I could remember which game it was but a couple of Bolton fans had been battered and missed their bus back and I gave them a lift back. Complete and utter fucking nutjobs who scared the shite out of me on the way home

iirc went to Wrexham twice, once in a cup game and then THAT game

Wasn't into all the fighting malarkey but seem to remember that we were a big draw in terms of numbers at away games and the local "boys" were always ready for us. Saw some really bad "scenes" that year

Correct.

chandler scored against Cardiff. Beat them 1-0.

regulars got a bit of a shock at state of pub after match.

Then bedlam at Neil  warnocks Scarborough bank holiday weekend I think.

im sure Scarborough had us, wolves and Burnley at home in first month of season. Poor bastards!

I thought we drew with Crewe maybe wrong.
