No love lost between Bolton and B/Pool in the 70s and 80s.

Yep. With my dads sentiments ingrained in me, the unfortunate incident at Bloomfield in 74, Alan Waldron’s broken leg, many games attended with a lot of incidents, it all conspired to make Blackpool bigger than any other local game for me

Completely understand anyone under 50 not understanding that depth of feeling

Wigan, JCL shithouses, will never come near for me

No love at all from the sixties onwards been banjoyed on the pleasure beach as a scrawny fifteen year old doesnt make me neutral towards them.Remember being stood next to a guy on the old spoin kop at Blackpool he got a full housebrick right in the middle of his chest .Jesus I thought he was a gonner but he managed to come round it was always like that .

The Kop at B/Pool was never segregated when I went in the late 60s, fights breaking out all over the place, then they had a mesh put in after the stabbing in 74, still a volatile atmosphere for many years after.

Julian Darby debut?

And the Wigan game, the marc Gavin one

From memory I think you're spot on. Julian Darby at right back in those early days of his career. I'd have to check but I think a very young Mark Winstanley played at centre back. It was 1-1 and we were on top but they scored twice very late.

Gavin scored against Wigan that Easter Saturday. Here it is:

Was it something like ‘Bolton die, Preston Wankers?’

"Welcome back Bolton" , which was supposed to be all scary & threatening but wasn't.

Think both of the above and "bye bye Bolton."

I was very young and thought it was abusing holidaymakers. 😂

Loved reading that stuff about 53 cup final etc. Great debut by Gavin at Wigan, he was a proper winger. If I'm not mistaken the Blackpool game was a stupid KO time, like 11am, correct me if I'm wrong. Does anyone else remember the 11am KOs? One was on N.Y. Day v Blackburn in 82, I was genuinely ill on terrace but couldn't miss that game (1-0 Henry free kick). Wigan away 83 Boxing Day, frozen pitch. In afternoon I went to Bury v Rochdale.

Great goal by Gavin at Wigan that. Lovely to see Wanderers fans celebrating on all 4 sides of the ground too! That wasn't Gavins debut though.

I remember 11am KO's at Wigan two years running. Boxing day 83 & 84. Southend  (!) away in 94 (?).  Remember the win v Blackburn in the middle of an unbeaten run. Had forgotten that was an 11am KO

Happy to be corrected on Gavin. Yes Southend, I remember trying to find out the score, relying on ceefax, Scott Green scored. Ridiculous KO time so far away. Very odd there were BW fans in home end, our end was half empty!

I'd no idea that Blackburn game in 82 was an early kick off. I think that was the one where there were Bolton fans in the away end (that day it was the section of the Embankment next to the Manny Road North) and the Manny Road regulars made themselves busy trying to get over the fence and join them.

Yes I think the Blackpool game in 1986 was an early kick off. Since then I reckon its eight home league games unbeaten against them and several home cup games also without defeat.

I think that the grass bank at the back of the terraced area wasn't counted for the capacity of the away end so that's why it looked empty even when sold out.

It definitely wasnt sold out.  A few times we took "massive" followings there - Boxing Day 83 (Chandler), Freight Rover Semi (Caldwell) and the famous Tony Kelly goal in the promotion season.  Every other time we just turned up, paid on the gate and definitely didnt fill it.  I remember a game at Easter when neither side was playing for anything in Div 3, we were sat down on the grass in the sun, it was like a pre-season friendly atmosphere.

Was that the day they invaded the pitch demanding Dave McKay get sacked? My memory is Brum were the better team but we got the goals

Wouldn’t be surprised if we had as many as they did in their end as well.

Never went in our end once at their old ground.
