EE was usually fairly good apart from half time. O2 has just been a complete write off within a mile of the ground for every game this season. Phone goes mad as soon as I come off the M61 at Chequerbent on the way home.

Whatever happened to being responsible for your own actions?

You can still put a bet on. Just not in the stadium. Don't understand what all the fuss is about.

I dont from either angle. The lack of betting shops wont stop people and either will the club detaching itself from betting companies.

Doesnt affect anyone still wanting to bet.

All a fuss about nothing.

Stopping adverts for fags didn't directly make people stop smoking, but it's definitely had an effect.

In 1974 45% of adults smoked in the UK, now it’s less than 15%, although how much of that reduction is down to tobacco  advertising bans is hard to define.

I don't think anyone has made a fuss, mainly because there is online betting.

Good PR for us and probably one of the first clubs to do it, fair play to Sharon, at the moment she can do no wrong.

Agree in general, just hope there is no "mission creep".

I've never put a bet on, so completely unaffected and I doubt it will unduly affect anyone's enjoyment (the game is the main part). Just as discussed with Mounts.

Aren't fags really expensive now, too?

I've heard that 20 cigs are even dearer than one of Casino's bumchuffery beers.

A packet of 20 Lambert&Butlers are £10.44 a pack - fuckin’ ‘ell. 😲

Great work from Shazza re betting in stadium.

It’s in your face 24/7 in football. If our place is a little sanctuary from this then happy days.

If you buy five packs at once (at Morrison's) you can save £0.778 a pack.

And the 'Original Silver' which folk remember, are £11.55 per pack.

These 'Blue' varieties (like the £10.55 packs you refer to) of L+B, B&H etc. are comprised of 10% shredded Chinese Newspapers and small pet bedding (wood shavings).

All I know is if I smoked, I'd mooch to Poland twice a year to stock up...

Almost 60p for a death stick, what a swizz.

And twat your missus and slash her face - 18 months suspended sentence.

Bring a bit of tobacco in and cock a snook at The Treasury - four years, bang (gavel) - take him down.

There are shops all over Bolton with under-the-counter dodgy fags. You need to be introduced by someone to buy.

I remember either reading or watching (obviously don’t remember that well) where apparently, Ipswich is the port of choice for dodgy cigarettes. Apparently, they picked all the discarded packets from waste bins and count the percentage of duty paid against duty dodged.

If buying abroad, other than Duty Free or 'Brit-Heavy' places like Benidorm, Playa De Las Americas, Playa Del Inglés etc. 'British' cigs have a high chance of being Chinese knock-offs.

I used to buy Polish or Croatian fags that tasted most similar to the brand we'd (mainly socially) smoke...

They usually had American style names...

Filthy habit.

Only usually smoked when already on a different plane from other things...

As one-by-one the venues for such revelry banned smoking; the match, the pub, Nightclubs, gigs etc. Then I couldn't be arsed anymore after initial grumblings.

So the smoking ban worked (for me).

Went in a smoking bar in Prague about six or so years ago, if fucking reeked, I couldn't believe that's what our pubs were once like...

I gave up smoking in November 2006 and on occasion, 15 years later, could still murder one. The indoor public smoking ban pretty much coincided with me giving up so probably helped.

The casinos of Las Vegas still allow smoking and it’s weird walking through a cloud of Cuban cigar smoke.

I occasionally catch a whiff and it brings back good memories.

I cadged a cig off my nephew, pissed up in Las Palmas about three years ago - so about 11/12 years since I quit my (then weekend only) habit, three drags was enough, horrible, wish I'd never smoked.

And I shudder when I think of methods employed to 'smoke' exotic resins and herbal tobaccos in our teens/early twenties...

They used to get stats from football grounds pre smoking ban as to how many were smoking dodgy fags with the empty packets on the terraces

Your post brought back a couple of memories:

The first was about an old pal who had not smoked for 17 years. On holiday with his wife, they met another couple and the four went out for a beer.

They sat around a small table and the other woman took a cigarette and offered them around. My mate told her he could kill for one but before he went on to explain how he’d last smoked 17 years ago, his wife interjected, “Don’t you dare!”

He said it was like a red rag to a bull. No way he was being forbidden by his Mrs.

He took a cig and savoured each and every lungful of it. And so re-commenced his 40/day smoking habit.

You talk about herbal type cigs. In the late 70s/early 80s shops would sell herbal cigarettes. (Herbal as in a bit of sage, rosemary, thyme, etc., rather than ‘herbal’.

Out of curiosity, with a mate, we bought a packet on the way to a home game. We lit one each in the middle of the Lever End and suddenly, the gap around us grew wider as we exhaled what can only have smelled like a hay-barn fire. Best view of a game I’d ever had!

A mate was going out with a really bonny girl (dunno, she always wore frumpy jumpers, so I reckon' big) for years - even playing house a few of them, anyhow she hated smoking so he quit, coincidentally on a week he was setting up a website/server/system etc. for a hypnotherapist hmmm.🤔 We'd question how easily he'd quit and suggest the Hypno bloke had a hand in it...

Him: "I think I'd remember asking to be/being hypnotised, dickheads..."

Us: "Not if you told him to make you forget that before he hypnotised you, dickhead..."

Didn't smoke for four years.

The very day they finally split he started smoking again...

What a dick.

I really think it was initially just a "Fuck you, I do what I want to do now" gesture, but he was soon hooked again.

But relapsing after 17 years is just plain stupid, wouldn't have happened if not for pissed-up stubbornness/male pride I reckon'.

He also blamed it on male pride and pig-headedness.

I like a bet. I have it well under control - nothing wild and if it's not available I don't have withdrawal symptoms.

Not in favour of the ban but concede that gambling firms and adverts seem to be omnipresent these days so a reduction to an acceptable level would be warranted. Total ban? No. I am with MK on this one - sanitisation along the lines of all of the PC/virtue signalling/gesture politics bollocks being rammed down our throats all the time these days by the 'Thungberg generation', tree huggers and other assorted naysayers and doom mongers.

Fuck the fun police and the miserable legion of sanctimonious cunts who seek to destroy the excitement which draws us to events like football matches in the first place. Aldous Huxley could have scripted this. I wonder where the savage lands will end up being where we will need to visit to actually live a little?
