Could do without those other than the constipation.  A lot of driving in my job so not sure they will agree with me but guess everyone is different

Upto 450mg per day. Start on 50 increase by 50 every 2 days until the pain subsides

Really?

Fuckin ell.

I'm on 150mg per day and thought that was quite high. Gp did mention at one point looking to reduce it a bit, but no rush.

Seems a hell of a lot that.

For me, I was prescribed it to help with epilepsy/anxiety by psychiatrist.

At the time is was as if every gland that produces a fight or flight hormone was permanently on full production: couldn't sleep, like being chased by several great whites permanently! :)

Anyway, helped enormously, doesn't completely remove the shit, but puts you into a better place to handle it.

Drawback: gained quite a bit of weight. Doc not too concerned as it can do that. In the leaflet, the wife read it, it talks of swollen abdomen! Definitely true for me.

Absolutely no constipation for me!

Prescribed by a pain specialist.  Effectively it’s what the guy does so I’ve got to believe he knows what he’s doing!!! He’s doing some steroid injections into my nerve roots in the spine/neck in 3 weeks so im praying he knows what he’s doing!!

I came off one drug cos of weight gain which was Prescribed  by my gp. Hoping this doesn’t give me even more!!!

says this should allow me to manage the pain and be able to exercise again is suppose its a fair balance maybe

It’s a precursor to surgery. Says that if the injection stops the pain then the surgery will c90% be successful.

im hoping the painkillers work a miracle to be honest

Aye, just go with it.

Just had a little read: some websites say max dose of 300mg. NHS one says 600mg! Says it all.

Also seen some additional potential side effects which could be applicable to me, but could also be other shit.

For me the biggy is blood sugar/feeling hungry and hence the weight gain.

I find that if I eat too little in the evening, my head can start spinning in the morning and I have to eat or get headache and feel a bit shit.

A good meal with slow release carbohydrates seems to help.

What's the surgey? I'd be very careful with pregablin. That's a high dose and it is addictive with a number of side effects. Its absolutely fine short term but it depends if its just to hold you over to the injection which then holds you over to surgery.

I'd not be happy if they were looking at this as a way to get to surgery over a long period....

To reinforce what bwfcfan writes Pregabalin is very much en vogue with fans of the poppy atm.

In fact 9/10 bagheads will eschew methadone, oromorph etc. if they fancy their chances at mumbling some Pregabalin instead.

Be careful with it - in more ways than one.

This is what the medics use for prescribing and the best place to look for reliable information.

Bear in mind - the reason there are so many side effects on most medications is that if a patient reports it (even just one patient once) - it has to be reported and included on subsequent patient information leaflets.

The pain specialists are excellent and won't have prescribed these without looking at possible contraindications or weighing up risks vs rewards. What I'm basically saying is listen to the advice of the medical professional who has studied your condition and treatments for ten years and not folk off WW (myself included). They prescribed them because you need them so take them with confidence - but remain mindful and report anything back that seems untoward. Failing that - rub it with a 'bloon.

Decompression surgery. Two discs out my spine in my neck and replaced with bone grafts from my hips

Wow to be honest I had no idea what it was. Until I was at the pharmacy last night and it wasn’t as straightforward as usual and she told me it was a controlled drug

im now quite concerned.

yeah I’m not going to not take them as I was in for an hour last night going through various things before he prescribed Anythjng so confident he will be bang on

im worried I might like them too much. I do have a wee fancy for things of the narcotic variety from time to time and I could do without another devil in my head 😂

Wouldn't worry. Apparently, it's not supposed to be prescribed if you've had a predeliction for medicines before, according to the information.

Anyway, for us epileptics, we can be on it for a long time. I suppose you have to way up the risks with what would happen without them.

It was recently reclassified as Class C. Illegal to have without a prescription and only a month can be prescribed at a time iirc

A strange drug. Seems to work either really well or not all in both epilepsy and pain. If the root of the problem is the nerve they are giving it to calm the excitability of the nerve down and to try to stop the transmission of the pain. Very high dose so guessing you’ve quite a bad problem with the nerve??

Best of luck with it!!

Edit: Sorry - hadn’t seen your reply re what the problem is. Makes sense if the discs are pressing the nerve.

Cheers. Yeah nerves at c4/5 and 5/6. Very painful and some strange symptoms as well. gone from 10 hours sleep a night religiously upto 2 years ago to 3-4 a night nowadays. Horrendous and a right grumpy fucker because of it.

Well it's all gone to pot for me when I transferred to outdoor working.

Perhaps all the chemicals I was inhaling previously were keeping the pain away. :)
