I liked Coyle. Clearly had to go at the end but We were close to being great under him till Evans ended Holdens career.

id rather have a gamble and achieve some high/lows than boring.

Yeah no arguments mate. So avoidable. But heights seen that I’ll prob not see again football wise.

I'd rather he not have gambled with the 12 highest wage bill in the Premier league and start our demise to bottom division and financial meltdown if I'm honest.

He got us playing good stuff for about 8 games max. Then we got found out.

That's how coaching works.

Hmmm not sure about Ben Marshall’s viewpoint given what I’ve heard about him and his attitude.

Wasn't he playing for Stoneclough before he turned thirty or something?

He'll no doubt be right about Coyle though, one of the worst appointments we ever made

He was doing well with Burnley at the time, so an understandable appointment. Majority of us seemed happy with it.

Didn't work out, and subsequently I think he's shown that he's not up to it. "If truth be told" 😁

Dont dislike the fella, and some of the comments I feel are over the top, but he's simply not good enough at management.

Aye. His first full season here was fucking brilliant, despite the semi

He was a cheerleader. Great when things are going well but as others have said, got completely found out in terms of managerial / coaching capability once things started to go wrong.

Long time ago now though!

Yeah, on the face of it the appointment made a lot of sense at the time

It's just a shame his success was built on sand and we didn't get rid earlier

time to dust off your muamba stats

We stole him from Burnley & he brought Holden and 'Our'Jack Wilshire to the Reebok instead of them going to Turf Moor.

I'm very, very glad of that. He brought Sturridge too.

He got us to Wembley but then was overwhelmed by the occasion and rarely looked on it after that. He awfully mismanaged Muamba, before his illness and became obsessed with taking players off at 2-0 & drawing or losing.

Like a rabbit in headlights he should have been let go that Summer.

I thought it was a great appointment at the time.

I was very, very wrong.

Not a single person though it was a bad appointment at the time. It was almost too perfect.

Yep. I remember working with my Dad in the snow when the news came in. We were literally jumping about celebrating.

After a couple of seasons of infighting it was an unbelievable appointment. Burnley away on Boxing Day sealed the deal.

That period just after he came was unbelievable, we were on for a top 4 finish. He was even being touted for Arsenal and Liverpool. What a time.

Then it went to shit :( and we've not looked back since.

He does come in for a lot of stick that's over the top. He's a genuine bloke who loves the club. His time as a player shouldn't be forgotten in his legacy here.

He definitely made mistakes and got found out as a manager. His time at Bolton was badly affected by key players not being available - Holden, Muamba etc. But you'd have to guess that over time things would have degenerated anyway
