deane koontz Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 Bit grim. Don't think I'd want to wander about on an active volcano myself. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-50715047 Quote
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 9, 2019 Site Supporter Posted December 9, 2019 Saw it this morning. One photo seems to show the whole place enshrouded in an ash cloud. Can't see many surviving, that were near the crater when it went off. Bad do. Quote

Site Supporter Spider Posted December 9, 2019 Site Supporter Posted December 9, 2019 I once scalded myself with boiling water from a kettle and that proper hurt. I bet volcano water smarts a bit too. Quote
jayjayoghani Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 Visited last December, have to say it was a brilliant day out, one of best excursions I've ever done. Like visiting a different planet Quote
Traf Posted December 9, 2019 Posted December 9, 2019 Active volcano gets warm, who'd have thought it? 7 eruptions in 8 years? You'd have to be mental to go inside it. Quote

Moderators Casino Posted December 9, 2019 Moderators Posted December 9, 2019 We went on a trip to timanfaya That was plenty lively enough for me to go inside for a beer Quote

As interesting as it looks, is there any kind of warning system blocking people from going? That is, we're you given any kind of forecast before being allowed on? Someone will inevitably be culpable with this, surely - just wondering how hard the tour organisers will have the book thrown at them...? Quote

jayjayoghani Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 When we went on the Alert Level was at 1 so lowest. There is a bit of complacency here sometimes in regards to H&S. You can't personally sue anyone in NZ, that's good in a way (spurious car accident claims don't exist here) but think it can breed "she'll be right" Quote
TM Trotter Posted December 11, 2019 Posted December 11, 2019 Great link, thanks. I love their classifications. *The earth spits tornados of fire, gigantic plumes of ash and smoke fill the air, the gates of Hell open* "yeah, that's a moderate" 😂 Quote
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted December 11, 2019 Site Supporter Posted December 11, 2019 Iirc, the bloke interviewed on telly said it was at level 2 for that island. Quote
Site Supporter MickyD Posted December 11, 2019 Site Supporter Posted December 11, 2019 Most holiday insurance have a section about dangerous activity. I wonder if going to an active volcano is classed as such. Quote

Members DirtySanchez Posted December 11, 2019 Members Posted December 11, 2019 Was in Iceland a few years ago and theres a website that basically live tracks all the volcanic activity going on Whilst it was all stuff you wouldn't notice it was interesting knowing how much was actually going on Quote
