I noted Boris saying the other day that the A66 is to be made dual carriageway all the way across. Might help the journey a little.

Went on Trainline.com to see if they knew there were no trains on Boxing Day. It seems they did because they told me the best option would be to get the next available train which was on 27th December.

Obviously at that I abandoned all hope of getting to the North East by rail...

But wait, what's this I see in my inbox? Why, it's an email reminding me to book my travel plans for 26th December. And there are still tickets left!
