2 new variants in a week might be what determines the tiers we are in next year, rather than the number vaccinated

If the vaccine doesn’t stop the new strain and it’s back to square 1 then I doubt we will carry on as we have for another year

no chance

Hopefully it still works, no reason to think otherwise thus far?

edit, just discussed at the press conference, no reason to think it won’t work

Hopefully once this Oxford vaccine gets signed off things should seriously move

Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine has submitted its full data package to the MHRA for approval?  I thought that had been done ages ago.

Yeah he got very excited about announcing that. I thought he was going to say it was good to go.

I haven't seen anything to suggest it won't work

was along the lines if new variants spread quicker, then they may keep us in higher tiers to curb the spread, regardless of who has been vaccinated, as there may no point opening back up if folk are needing hospital treatment twice as fast or whatever

Port Vale away 13th March?

Still chuckle about you holding out hope of making it to Oxford away back in May, right at the peak of national lockdown 1

Once 15m have been vaccinated and 99% of the risk has gone, it won’t matter if a new variant comes out that spreads 10x as fast. 15m vaccinated is the end of the road for restrictions. Can’t see is going from Tier 4 to nothing. Likely we will move down the Tiers as the risk to the NHS decreases

No mate, they've been struggling to get it to this stage, hopefully the Mhra min approve it soon, but it might take a week or so. If they don't approve it we may be up shit creek for a little while longer

The vaccine isn't likely to be 100% effective and definitely not in the over 65s, look at the flu one as an example which doesn't get above 60% hit rate in that age group usually. Really not sure it's going to be the golden bullet people are hoping for.

aye, though Tier 4 didn't exist till this new strain was announced, so who knows

being a pessimist, I won't be dissapointed what comes next

I don't think anybody sensible think it'll be so effective do they? - if it's upwards of 75% then that's good enough though for us to move forwards.

They have quoted 90%+ haven’t they?

Appreciate that the Flu vaccine is different, but isn’t that down to having multiple different strains that require different vaccinations?

Covid doesn’t require multiple different vaccines as things stand

Just got this text, anyone else got one like it from their local NHS?

The first phase of the NHS Covid-19 vaccination programme has begun in Bromley. You will be contacted when you become eligible. Please do NOT contact the practice to get an appointment. Your support is appreciated to keep phone lines open for people who need to make appointments for other health matters.

Been receiving all sorts of texts. Current tier status, advice on how to stop the spread of Covid and one very similar to yours. All came from the doctors surgery

Yes 90% which is decent. I think the Oxford/AZ is reported at between 60%~90%, which is why it's taking a while

If it comes down to that, you’d like to think the Pfizer one at 90% is given to the most vulnerable / biggest risk then
