My uncle lost his battle to this in Royal Bolton this morning, so he will be one of today’s numbers.  last rites over the phone held by a nurse with no family there. made an exception yester

That was one of the loveliest things to ever happen. Stood in my garden sobbing like a baby! Proud to work for the NHS 👏👏👏👏❤️

I’ve sat with my mum who is slipping away, literally breathing her last today. She idolises the Queen, and whilst she didn’t in all likelihood hear that, I know she would have loved every single

Should my 75 year old Mum have been contacted for an appointment yet?

Was talking to her the other day and she shows zero signs of proactively trying to get one.

Letters have been going out, so when she receives one then she should arrange an appointment.

The letter gives ringing 119 or www.nhs.uk as the options. I tried both for my mum's appointment and ended up with a choice of Manchester or Blackburn so tried ringing her doctor's practice who gave me an appointment in Bolton for tomorrow.

Sounds a little grim this morning Hancock not sure if schools will reopen fully by Easter

Just watched interviews with Hancock and then the deputy chair of the vaccinations committee. Wish I hadn’t. Hancock, understandably, couldn’t give any reassurances about when we will start to relax lockdown. The vaccinations committee guy basically seemed to be saying that the decision to delay Pfizer second doses until 12 weeks is a complete gamble.

I think the logic behind it has been explained fairly well, it'll save lives in the short term and when the disease is as widespread as it is here, you need to cover as many people as possible.

But I wouldn't expect to see anything resembling normality until all the over 50s have had both.

As 2 of the ones who love lockdowns (yeah, i know you dont, but humour me) just when would you say, oh fuck it, this is no life

Lets just accept we have to all take our chances

Theres no guarantee theres not something else round the corner

Only 34% of the over 80’s been done up here. Krankie refuses to answer questions on it unsurprisingly. Another example of a shit job. Yet some folk on here think she’s great. It’s laughable.

And a bit of scandal as 6 workers at a food bank near Edinburgh have been vaccinated already. Rang up and booked themselves in simple as that. Apparently all you need is the phone number. Ring it they don’t qualify you or anything and book an appointment. By virtue of having the number your accepted. It’s not gone down well especially amongst those with relatives in care homes etc

I have to say that once the light nights start appearing, say mid March, that if we’re still in full lockdown there are going to be a lot of people fucking it off altogether.

if we get the same heatwave we had last April, there’ll be civil unrest.

if we can average a million jabs a day through Feb and early March, or get to 25 mill jabs done, I’m all for us taking our chances.

It’s a very good question. Something happens almost every day which makes me want to sack it all off just for a moment. But I reality I think if we found the vaccines didn’t work then we’d all had to rethink our strategy. For now I’ve been accepting of lockdowns with the promise of better times imminently through the vaccines. But like you say we can’t just carry on like this forever

Thanks for the civil response  :)

i do wonder if its an age thing

Id guess you and i are a fair bit older than tom, who may have more years ahead of him

Maybe that influences an individuals opinion on how long its worth existing under these restrictions

Schools need to go back, especially secondary, they just aren't getting the same.level of teaching. I'm good until September but then the mat cover ends and if we're still not opening up live venues the business I've started is going to be tough to draw a wage from.

But we've got to.keep plugging ahead. The upside is I get to see my kids much more, I'm.not spending a fortune on communting and I've got a better work life balance not being stuck.on trains and tubes running to meetings - plus get through much more work.

No it's not an age thing. I am fucking old and do not want to come out of lockdown till we have as close we can have a guarantee that we won't need to go back into one.

What point is there in coming out if it means you can go the pub BUT only with direct family for a meal and you have a max 2 hours but only for next month when we will be back to square 1.  You can not go on holiday as we still need travel restrictions in the UK, foreign holidays a no no.

The only suggestion that the vaccines do not work relates to new variants and that is so far ' not proven they do'.

It really is a case of doing this properly so we do not need to do it again. Will Boris stand up to his MPs to ensure this ? I doubt it

I'm with you Ani, I'm quite happy to stay under current restrictions for another 6 months if needs be, if that's what it takes. I'd certainly rather not be going into another lockdown again later on the year purely because we've left this one to early.

We can only how the vaccine works, and that those who we chose to Govern actually make the right decisions

Yes that is exactly what I said  is it ?

I suppose its like choosing between a life sentence in prison or the gallows, a lot of people would probably swing.

My question was how long you would say lockdown was preferable to this shitty life

I'm not sure you answered but you did say, not until it was safe to do so

I think?

I'm saying that could be weeks, months or years

Thing is nobody has a choice really. What can we do? Go to someone’s house? Would rather stay in my own.

i believe the end is in sight and I’ve stuck to it til now so I’m gonna stick with it til the end now

reckon i could do 6 more weeks

If we get a mutation that the vac can't cope with, we are not quite back to square one but it'll be months and months

And months
