Our coach broke down at Hartshead Moor Services & one of the lads called the Scarborough police from a phone box to say that if the game wasn't delayed there'd be a riot when we got there. The game obviously wasn't delayed & we arrived late just to see Dave Sutton head into his own net. I remember that the bogs were just a wall to piss against & no trough at the bottom so it was running everywhere. Also remember that as we arrived in the town, the "welcome to Scarborough" was sprayed out & had "Wolves on tour" sprayed next to it. The rest of the season was largely forgettable apart from Wrexham. That Robbie Savage goal & the Dave Higson commentary of it is legendary. Then we went & won 4-0 at Peterborough next bloody game.I'd like to say" I was there ' but I was'nt .Somebody off here might have been though ? Also the fans favourite 'non picked' player was Stevens.Did'nt do much when he did get picked......what do fans know ! Ps There's only one Robbie Savage & not that plonker off the telly. We made quite a few signings that Summer before Div 4. From memory: Trevor Morgan, Gary Henshaw, Dean Crombie, John Thomas, Jeff Chandler. Loads of the more prominent memories already mentioned. One or two more obscure: A 1-1 Friday night home draw in pissing rain against Darlington when were absolute gash. A 0-0 away draw at Halifax pretty early in January with the away following becoming mutinous towards Neal because of the negative tactics. Peter Barnes playing the first 3 minutes of a game at home to Carlisle before getting injured with his first kick of the ball. We won 5-0 anyway.(I've put a few more on You Tube from this season: Bolton 2 Cambridge 2, Bolton 4 Colchester 0, Bolton 2 Peterborough 0, Barnsley 3 Bolton 1 in the cup, Rochdale 2 Bolton 2, Bolton 1 Crewe 1) More to come when I finally get around to it. Had a decent enough career in the lower leagues. The Wimbledon FA cup final happened a week later. Chances are I was conceived after Wrexham or that. He showed a lot of promise in his first 2 or 3 years at the club but never dislodged Trevor Morgan and John Thomas in Div 4. After we'd settled in Div 3 he never dislodged Philliskirk or Reeves. He began to stagnate. Looking back now he ought to have moved on sooner, his career may have taken a different route. Decent player, good athlete, technically alright as well. Couldn’t finish like Caldwell though. just checked his record after he left us he scored plenty. Think he was often sub for us. miamiwhite Posted January 24, 2020 Share Posted January 24, 2020 Was Halifax in the FA Cup during our time in the fourth division? We played them so many times in that era I've lost track of it all. One very poor following that season which stands out in my memory was Carlisle away, not even a few hundred there for that one. Next season, I imagine the ground will be packed when we turn up. Was there the other week, the locals are eagerly awaiting our visit. Straight out of the station and straight into the main boozing street. 2 big Wetherspoons without a hundred yards of each other.
