So, it goes up by 3 quid in April and the usual debate starts about if we should scrap the licence fee, scrap the BBC, reduce costs, etc.

So what's everyone thoughts?

Personally I like the BBC but I do think it needs to show better value for money and maybe generate some income from sponsorship rather than adverts?

For dramas it’s pretty good and the iPlayer is decent. Comedy general viewing, and live sports isn’t great unless it’s the World Cup or Olympics.

I reckon a big chunk of it goes on the News.

Is There a breakdown of what it gets spent on?

Having an ‘independent’ news source is crucial. But for me the problem is the wider BBC model doesn’t work anymore. People especially the younger generation pay for content they want. Forcing them to pay for content they don’t want in order to also pay for what they do seems to not work in 2020. But then I don’t know what the answer is. The core BBC demographic is 55 plus. Equally once you lose independence you take away the main argument for its existence.

I think it puts out more decent content than any other provider. And the fact that everybody seems to complain that it's biased against their own particular political leanings makes me think that they're doing a pretty good job of remaining nuetral.

Your alternative is C4 news or ITV news which both swing in a very distinct direction.

Be a huge shame if we were to pot it.

Agree.

Cuts coming to news department, which on the face of it seems.quite reasonable. A lot of stuff based around news in different guises. BBC 2 for example will often run with the same content as the news channel in the morning.

Some of the presenters could learn some better manners too when interviewing people, though I suppose that's cultural and comes from above.

Over 75s should pay it just like the rest of us

Favouring one age group over anybody else is wrong and whilst it being an offence not to pay it

Yep agree. Those on particularly low incomes get a discount. Irrespective of age. Seems fairer.

Yep, thinking back they said anybody over 75 is means tested but that didn't get reported properly

The Mail and the Express won't like it but they like to scare their readers into thinking if the sun shines they'll die

But I still think the whole thing is a big con

Some good points there mate, especially re folk complaining re the political leanings.....I always call them biased to you queer fuckers, whilst bwfcfan5 calls them biased towards us normal folk, so that's a cracking point.

Personally, I think the Beeb want to stir against whoever is in power and cause a bit of a talking point for the nation.

I watch plenty on iplayer,  some really good stuff come out of there, though they admittedly do need to up the ante in other areas and catch up with the times.  A few shithot porn channels and nobody would complain about the licence fee, especially Gonzo and Widnes who still pay £300 a month for their Babestation calls

The simplest way forward is to increase the age limit by one each year.

Those already on a freebie will continue and the rest of us won't miss what they've never had.

Malcolm, aged 72 and 4 months but feeling 18 these last 10 days.

The BBC favours whoever is in power or likely to be soon for obvious reasons. See the talk of pressure not to be critical of Boris during the campaign from on top. It gets denied but certainly seems something in it. They aren’t biased really just looking out for their own future. It’s also undeniable that their main news editorial team include a large number of Tory party plants something that began in 2010 and continued since then.

Agree on most parts there fella, but even you would agree their Brexit day coverage was shocking.

The Beeb also needs an urgent reform, folk have too much choice these days to be reliant on the BBC
