Moderators Zico Posted February 25, 2020 Moderators Share Posted February 25, 2020 Children aged 11 and under will no longer be taught to head footballs during training in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-scotland-51614088 Give it twenty years and propi headed goals will be a thing of the past
Leyther_Matt
Our lads gave up heading the ball years ago, didn’t they?
Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted February 26, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted February 26, 2020 I can sort of understand it but most u11’s duck away of heading the ball anyway. Rather than ban it, it’s down to coaches telling their lads to play it on the deck rather than lump it to the big lad.
Okocha10
I don't get the idea of this, yeah footballers 20-30 years ago got dementia because the ball was like heading concrete back then. Now footballs are light as anything surely it wouldn't affect a young kid now or why din't they put into practice younger kids have to play with a lighter ball to they reach a certain age Edited February 26, 2020 by Okocha10
Anderson
I get it, I mean it's lower down on the CTE hit list but fair enough target it. It also should encourage the younger players to become better actual footballers you'd hope but as said above, that is really on the coaches. Are we going to be scaling and limiting contact in U18 Rugby games now as well to suit though?
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 26, 2020 Site Supporter Share Posted February 26, 2020 Kids under 11. No problem with this at all. Still growing and developing, if evidence is now suggesting this is reasonable then fine. Beyond this, teaching youngsters how to head it properly is important. radcliffe white
Ours have never done heading sessions it’s always been dodgy ground so been left and tbh I rarely see kids heading it anyway
Members Rudy
Their footballing skills develop better at this age when the game is played below waist height anyways
