Trouble on the terraces

Me. Went with me old man and a couple of his mates. We were in that paddock in front of that big stand opposite the players tunnel. Got a bit hairy as me Dad was with a couple of big buggers who were giving it some after a few sherberts. Anyone remember Big Dennis from L/H? Knew a lot of the DMB's and came over and calmed things down before it kicked off.

Just re read duck eggs post I was thinking of the 79-80 game where we were penned in the scoreboard, was bit too young to go OT In 74, was at Burnden for the home game. Isaac or Tel might know who big Dennis from LH is?  Or is it Possibly Cropper who still attends now.

:D Wasn't that the same one where we were escorted back to the train station and, after being pelted with half house bricks where those houses had been knocked down had dustbin lids skimmed at us like frisbee's by a couple of old women on tenement flat balconies shouting 'fackin' norvern monkeys'.

Cold Blow Lane was just about the most unwelcoming place you could go. Nutters in the stadium leaning over the fence screaming "Millwaw, Millwaw!' and never looked at the game once.

Possibly, I wasn’t brave enough to go on the train, think I went supporters club. 😂

I honestly can't remember. Too young really. I just recollect bother in the Manny Road. I don't really remember the pitch invasion either. How the hell did they all get on with the permiter fences in place by then?

I remember bits about the game - we played really well that day. Seemed to be camped in Sheff Weds half in the first half. Tony Henry was a good player - often forgotten now in the history of BWFC.

Tony Henry was the key man in both those last two victories although Chris Thompson did grab the winner against Derby.

Wish we had a clever player like him now reminded me alot of JB not much pace but unflappable given a goal scroring opportunity.

Looking at the gates towards the end of that season they were hovering around the 6-7k mark excluding the Blackburn derby.Plus we got tonked 7-1 at QPR prior to the Derby game.My recollection is SW brought 5k at least. The wait for the Cardiff result was torture I could see Luton's foot of the gas & a home win.

Was out in town that Friday night & found out through a fellow Wanderer the score .Nobody seemed arsed, surreal indeed.

It was a big deal to survive to the core of us who were still going though. The end of that whole season was fraught. Does anybody remember a 1-1 home draw against Wrexham when Paul Jones missed a penalty and then we got another in the last minute and he scored it?

EDIT - ignore me. Talking bollocks again. That was the 3rd last game of 80/81! Brian Kidd scored a pen after Paul Jones had missed one.

Chris Thompson. Sadly no longer with us. If I can manufacture the time I'll post a video this weekend of him scoring for us against Wigan later in the 80s. We win though! He was a good player - came through with Dave Hoggan, David Burke, Phil Wilson, Mick Bennett et al.

Unless my noggin is failing me, I'd have sworn blind that Chris Thompson had long since left the club before we ever played Wigan.  In fact didnt he once play for them against us?

After we beat Sheff Wed we climbed up to 15th, but our season had ended that day and the other teams below us had games in hand on us, so watching them starting to creep up on us was like a slow torture, culminating on the final fixture which was the Cardiff v Luton game.

Anybody shed any light on battles with stoke. Know there was big kick off outside trotters early 90s.

But was there also trouble at a match in the 70s.
Headline in the mirror was “Terror on the terraces as thugs let fly”.

The 70s one was Frankie's debut.  Golf balls the main things I remember flying around that day.

The early 90s was a 0-1 loss and there was battling up Manchester Road before the game. A Utd lad I worked with at the time brought a copy of Red Issue in, where it was discussed. They had no game that day and a few came along to watch our match instead and were taken aback at the violence.  Some Stoke lad with a Gazza t shirt on got battered senseless outside the Wagon and Horses.

The Sunday FA Cup match with Stoke was possibly the most violent of the lot. Loads of Stoke went on the Lever End early & scuffles broke out as Bolton started coming in, but when all Bolton got in, it turned into a mass brawl which continued on & off throughout the match,  with a few being carted out injured. Bolton got the better of it & I can't remember Stoke sticking around outside.

The one outside the Trotters in the 90's left one Stoke fan in Bolton infirmary for a bit.

In fairness to Stoke, overall Stoke brought more to Bolton than we took there.

Know one of Stokes main lads from over this way. We are highly regarded in those parts.

Theres a bit in their book about the early 90’s one. Our man D getting the plaudits in his knee length leather number.

I was in the Bolton section of the embankment for the Stoke FA cup sunday game, Stoke fans shared the other half. Bricks bottles, coins and darts were thrown from one side to the other and many people got hit, St Johns ambulancemen were very busy that day.

My mate stood next to me got a half house brick thrown in his face - i think it might have smarted a tad.

Just a loon part of the country

Had a VHS of vale legging Stoke with equal numbers in late 90’s. Stoke leg it down the road and plain clothed coppers come out of nowhere and nail about ten of em 🤦🏼‍♂️

Strong memories of the 70s and 90s Stoke games mentioned above. But there's actually a more recent memory with them. When they tried to get in to the East Stand from the South in the aftermatch of Ivan Klasnic snatching a late winner against the around a decade or so ago. They were not happy little Stokies that day!!

Got a bit naughty down there around 91 time if I remember rightly, think it was the 2-2 draw when we came from 2 down. The car park outside wasn’t a place to hang around.

i remember it booting off at Bradford once too, late 80’s I’d guess. Couple of van loads of Bolton having a right set too on the street at the side of the chicken run terrace. I’d only be mid teens then but remember watching it in awe
