Going back to the Charlton game when we got relegated. A tidy form of "boys" went on the train via Wigan that day, bumping into a mob of Preston who had at landed at Wigan very early for their game. All hell ensued at North Western that day.

Bumped into the same lot of Preston a year later on our last away of the season when we took a huge mob of lads on the train.

Some of us drifted off, pretty sure it was B from L/H who got a flying bottle or glass on the head when we were scuffling in a side street....our lot armed with the little JIF bottles which didn't contain lemon for some daft reason 😉

Next away game after that was Rochdale in the Lancs Cup pre season,....fine mob of ours out that day......a good 300 outside the Flemish Weaver pub or was it the Merry Weaver ?

That must have been the day of the battle in the park.  I've never seen such sustained battling, it looked all the more impressive by the police horses running across the field amidst the riot, I was watching from a safe distance but it looked like something out of a cowboy movie.  It always brings back fond memories whenever I pass that park in Preston and I try to walk through it when we play there for old times sake!

I was back at Deepdale 3 months later for a Manx Cup game, naively expecting something similar but there were only a few hundred of us (Graham Bell scored a header set up by Oghani, 1-1).

1 Preston

2 Bradford

3 fleetwood

4, 5, 6 Burnley

7 wigan

9 swindon

10 blackpool

Be happy with 4 from 10

4 could also be Halifax, 7 Burnley at home, 6 I'm plumping for Southend as it made the Colin Moynihan list of shame, 9 could also apply to United at Chorley.

That's the one mate. Also went to the pre season friendly,  half a dozen of us got ambushed by their mob and legged through an Asian family's house....the Preston lot followed us 😂😂

The 84/85 match saw smoke bombs in our end, brawls with the police then a lad from T/M on the pitch.

After the match,  scuffling on the park as always which carried on across the main road and near some allotments further down......briefly stopped by a young woman with a pram walking past....when she cleared the path, the hostilities resumed with gusto...quite a lively day that, with the brawl outside the boozer beforehand, then the train being set on fire on the way home.

I remember talking to Russ (Bony) from Horwich at the game , he was a friend of Tony Longworth (RIP), & one of his mates had a fuckin big lump in the middle of his forehead where he'd been hit by a flying brick at Wigan, so that's obviously the same incident.

They were that bit younger than me so I don't really know them.

On the train back, one of them left a 'present' in a polystyrene box on the top shelf of the buffet bar. 💩

Police chased everybody around Wigan on the way back too.

Yes, that's the one mate. That incident v Preston certainly gelled our casual lads into a decent outfit.

By the following season,  the number of lads had swollen significantly

At the 83/84 match,  always remember about 20 of our lot being legged by a good 150 Preston who were giving it the "come on you Bolton bastards" to our lads who had just turned into the street where a good 300 of us were marching up....Preston didn't hang about for more than a second.....huge mob of ours that day. Stag on Daubhill took a coach too of older heads who joined up with us, impressive sight when the old bill escorted us to the ground.

Number 7 - is that when Burnley's lot got cornered in the Bradford Arms?

Number 10 - is 1974 the worst it ever got at Blackpool? Clearly there was a particularly awful incident that day but was the rest of the day nasty throughout? There were a few trips there in the 70s culminating in us taking about 10000 there on Dec 27, 1977 when we last won there. Then obviously a few in the second half of the 80s.

The first game at Blackpool after the KO incident was what you could expect, loads of street fighting close to the ground before the game but Bolton had the upper hand, after the match it was all Bolton and ran them ragged, Talbot Rd Bus station saw Blackpool getting it.

Some older mates at away games in the 80s used to point out "Ivan" as a seasoned ringleader.  Always seemed to wear a sheepskin coat, had a prominent tache, I'm fairly sure he's still a regular in ESL.

Last saw Ivan about 18 months ago at a game , in the 80s his chant was always We Hate People .

I’d like to see the cutting from the Fleetwood away game, went to that game think it was also Ray Deakin debut,  wasn’t the trouble with the gypsies on the Park next to the stadium?  All those games I was present except 74 at blackpool.

I remember that game at Preston and the park incident.

there were about 12 of is in the van that day, one of our lads, “Briggy “ (name changed) had been bitten by a police dog before the game so he was in a stinking mood especially as we took the piss and kept barking at him.

we were stuck in a traffick jam outside the ground after the game on the main road next to the park. We saw their mob congregating in the park, suddenly Briggy erupted!

He flung open the doors and was out, straight towards them! We all followed, as you do, and mayhem ensued.

there were scuffles left right and centre, police horses galloping round, I seem to recall some lads playing cricket and Briggy grabbing the stumps to have a swing.

we all returned the the van one by one as it slowly crawled along in the traffic until we were surrounded by a baying mob of prestoners. Our driver floored it down the wrong side of the road and I could still see Briggy grappling in the distance.

im embarrassed to say that we left him behind, he got back to the pub about 10-30pm and fell out with most of us. Can’t remember seeing him much after that. Sorry Briggy.

😂

Not seen TC for years now

Ivan used to go the game with Packie (RIP) - they were a comedy duo, taking the piss out of each other for being thick. Always in the end seats in the Manny Road North nearest the Embankment. They were there among the lads on the big days ... but they were there on their own for crap night matches v Lincoln etc.

I ended up sitting near Ivan at the FA Cup Semi v Stoke. He was a quiet lad that day with his head bowed. Remember getting an ironic laugh out of him when I said "come on Bolton, you've got em rattled now" when we got a corner at 4-0 down.

It was the Preston match that made my Dad ban me (yes he actually did), from any away matches until I turned 16 in 1987. He used to make sure I was around the house for Bolton aways (the only time he took any interest in football)

That would have been 75/6 then. There were a couple more games after that. Bloomfield Road wasn't quite the ramshackle shed it became in the 80s in those days. Both sides of the old Kop were open and it ended up split in half between home and away.
If you or anybody has other memories of 70s visits there - especially 77/78 - I'd be interested.

Not surprised Bolton had the upper hand!

Had a workmate from Lower Broughton who was a red but intrigued by the stories about the following of Bolton, he came with us that day to B/Pool in March 76, we laughed about his stories on about a band called the Stiff Kittens, his neighbour was Bernie Sumner. Anyway he was not disappointed with the outcome, and said that's one of the best away games iv'e been for years.

1-1 draw that day as so many of our visits there seem to finish. I get the impression they have been in a permanent state of wanting revenge ever since 74 but have never had the numbers - home or away.
