Spent a night in James cooks hospital in Middlesbrough a few years back, got chatting to a bloke about football and he reckoned that the Wembley Arch above/supporting the stadium is stuffed inside with loads of old Middlesbrough scarfs & shirts etc and in the future if or when its ever pulled down they will all be revealed, whatever.

As you were.

That Middlesbrough mob was game enough to bowl out of Piccadilly station looking for United at the start of the 88/89 season.Because Boro had been wank on previous  visits, United only had about 50 lads out on Piccadilly and to be fair Boro's 150 were well on top.By the time United's firm had made it up from Deansgate, Boro were being escorted to the ground, a nice result for them. That's probably the last time anything from Yorkshire had a go at United in Manchester.

They only popped up at Piccadilly cos they were too scared to venture into Eccles 🤣

Imagine a mob turning up en masse to Piccadilly, a station not even in the immediate area of OT. That’s a bit like the group of arsewipes from Wigan videoing themselves on Bolton Town Hall steps rather than 5 or 6 miles closer to the ground where Bolton fans were likely to be.

If that photo was Boro the year of the Sweet Green clash then it was some day from lunch time onwards - loads of trouble all day, they were in town in the morning & were up for it all day - I can still see a young small ginger Boro lad game as fcuk on a couple of separate occasions especially behind the opticians on Newport St (I think) and the black lad outside the Sweet Green when they came out (did he have a knife ?).

I think 3 or 4 of them got absolutely smashed on Bradshawgate at some stage when the came looking for Bolton, I'm sure it was the same game but I could be wrong.

87 that one, same as the pic.

The black lad had the knife at Bury when we turned up there and surprised them.

Some pics on other sites of the trouble at the Sweet Green and on Bradshawgate. Numbers wise, not the biggest but the gamest mob I saw at Burnden,

Yes I finished work at 11.30am got the bus into town & got off outside Morrisons minding my own business, 20 odd of them chased me towards the Sweet Green I was like Linford Christie just managed to get in with them a yard behind me, few of our lot were already in then they came in behind me, to be fair they were ok with us inside and left us alone but that was very early doors, but what a day as you say absolutely a very game mob of lads Boro had out that day.

I seem to recall Bury, we went on the bus after our game was called off - although that could have been a different game, the black lad was game as fcuk outside the Sweet Green I could be wrong about the knife but I'm sure we all thought he had one, none of us would take him on I know that.

I was sorting some papers a few weeks ago and found a warning letter from Des McBain dated 1994 after I had some minor fisticuffs with a bloke from Farnworth in the Burnden Stand, when I later spoke to Mr McBain we agreed it was a yellow card for misbehaviour (the other bloke got one too).

Pissed me off at the time but now see it as badge of honour. Found some other interesting stuff as well.

Not really, anyone up for it would know they'd be passing through there or Victoria en route to the ground, and enough Utd will be passing through themselves

Loads of footy fans there on match days

As opposed to Victoria Square where no one goes on match day

Was there a story on here about Bolton doing the Cockney Reds on Piccadilly, one of them phoned for help but had the phone taken off him and met with the comment "Its too late we've smashed them"

I seem to remember one where Bolton met City round Albert Square, got twatted, someone lost their phone, then went back to ask if any of the city fans had seen it!

A point for getting that Middlesbrough is in Yorkshire.

10 points deducted for obvious reasons

Never actively got involved but got caught up many a time

70’s - was a youngster stood on the Burnden Paddock with my Dad which was a great view to see it kicking off on the Manny Road terrace or the Embankment. Those days I don’t remember anything ever happening on the Burnden side or the Lever End. Always the Embankment. Wolves when they beat us. Fucking hell. Went on all game without a break. And the explanation of The Warbies standing ground under the Warburtons advertising hoarding explains a lot now.

I’ve no idea why but for that Chelsea game when they took the Lever End we were in the Wing Stand. One of those times that I wish I could ask my dad why?. He was Burnden Paddock come hell or high water. I suspect that he knew that it would be carnage and wanted to keep us safe. Abiding memory is Chelsea running from the Embankment and simply jumping in the Lever End with little resistance but seeing Tony Scott who was older and lived near me (family owned Scott’s Brake Linings at the bottom of Tonge Moor Road) wearing a black trench coat and those leather chequerboard driving gloves leading the charge from the Lever End into the Embankment as a great big fuck you

10 minutes later , it reversed .

That day , the word went out that Chelsea were after the Lever End  . Some were in there early doors , when they were joined by others from the Embankment it was chaos . I was outside , seen Bolton lads climbing out the turnstiles. I decided to go in the Embankment , not in there long as within 5 mins it kicked off again in the Lever End and we went the length of the pitch.

It was bedlam in the Lever End all match.

Yes Chelsea stayed in there all match , but heavily protected.

Its weird I remember nothing about what went on after the game.
