Super John's Favourite goals

There was a period, no idea what year. When we scored 4 or 5 every week for about a month

Think Fulham away, 4 2, was in that run

Burnley and Bradford ring bells

There was one goal scored by brown

Walker backheeled the pall perfectly in his stride

As for McGinlay, when we signed him, I was working in bury with a match going shaker

He was totally gutted

But his memories of him were as a bit of a show pony

Lots of tricks and skills

Always presumed Rioch had got into his ribs

Wonder what it was about Rioch and to a lesser extent McGinlay and Branagan that it didn't work at millwall

Danny Baker used to hate Rioch and his football

Total goals in all competitions

Andy Walker (1992-94)

App 78  sub 9  goals 55

The nearest I could find was

Albert Shepherd (1904-09)

App 123  goals 90

Harold Blackmore (1926-32)

App 165 Goals 122

Michael Ricketts (2000-03)

App 68 Sub 44  Goals 46

Joe Smith (1908-27)

App 492 Goals 277

Jack Milsom (1929-38)

App 255 Goals 153

Franny Lee (1960-68) app 210 Goals 106

Last but certainly not least

Nat Lofthouse (1945-61)

App 503 Goals 285.

Edited: to add the Man who this thread is about.

John Mcginley (1992-97)

App 230 Sub 15  Goals 118

Ricketts tally is impressive when you consider he scored six goals in the whole of 2003

Top drawer Ricketts

Best finisher we have had, imo

Anelka and Ricketts on a par. I always defend Ricketts when the ‘worst player to play for England’ argument comes up.

His call up was more than justified. Top scoring Englishman in the Prem at the time. Shame it all went to his head.

Ricketts was asked to play in an unfamiliar role that night for England and I don't think his game ever recovered from being hauled off at half time.

You can’t compare Ricketts to Anelka, the difference in quality is vast.

I get your point but I think he is referring to their time with us & in that case he isn't being unreasonable. Ricketts was top drawer for us until it fell to bits.

There was a spell when Ricketts was awesome.

Against Leicester and Manu he was unplayable. Wes Brown will still be having nightmares about him.

But, as stated, it was all about his head space. He’d just started going off his game when he got selected for England and we did well with the transfer fee.

I met Lenny Johnrose once ( ex PNE, Bury), and he spoke really well about him, saying that Ricketts had it all, except in his head.

Said he was a proper good bloke too.

Aye, I was referring to Casino’s comment about our best finisher. Of course Anelka was streets ahead overall 😂
