We've been told the FA will be attending games more often over the next few weeks to try and stamp out any bad behaviour. My nephew was a ref in Bolton & Bury JFL and got so much shit, mainly from managers and parents, he gave up. He was damned when he did and damned when he didn’t. Dr Faustus Posted November 7, 2022 Share Posted November 7, 2022 i was watching the lad so missed it- but the amount of complaints i received from parents. referee coaching their players, coaches disregarding rules. the league sec asked for feedback over whatsapp, so i told him (without mentioning the opponents- i look after a few teams). i then received a barrage of abuse from their manager, calling me a disgrace etc. he made a massive assumption, and apologised- but if the cap fits... So not sure it's anything that will be with us to stay. On one hand you've got young footballers that want to make it and will need to get used to dealing with the energy from the touchline and crowd. Then on the other hand you've got a huge number of kids and parents that just want a nice morning out to socialise and play a competitive game - Those that abuse referees and shout at kids in that environment are pricks and need to keep away. Just let your kids play and enjoy then game. Any tactical stuff they want to say to their kids should be given after the game. Dr Faustus Posted November 7, 2022 Share Posted November 7, 2022 from a coaches perspective its ideal- but we should be heard. keep parents quiet- had some trying to change penalty takers etc: and without wanting to sound xenophobic, i find eastern european parents the worst. i have had kids in tears from a bollocking off their dad (one played in a champions league qualifier in Ukraine), but its their native tongue so i dont know what they are saying. referees should be encouraged to be more vocal- explain their decision as they make it, but be bang on with rulings* coaches should only offer positive reinforcement- ask questions rather than telling players what to do; get the kids to think rather than be ordered. they will not learn if they just follow instructions i'm talking primarily at a younger age, this evolves as they mature, but the ethos remains the same. when my team loses (very rare lol), i hurt, they should hurt- for a moment. they mistakes, we make mistakes and thats perfect, as it gives us chance to learn and evolve. once they leave that pitch, any problems they had should be left behind- enjoy the weekend and we go again at training. fundamentally, football should be fun not mental Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Parents should keep quiet in regards to giving direction to their kids but should be allowed to cheer, praise encourage etc when they want. If clubs have problems with certain parents then surely it’s up to the club to sort out with them? finally some leagues are now starting to give points out for respect.
