Boats aren't allowed in British ports neither. Presumably other nations are following suit.

Trade just isn't quite so easy any more.

China rides to the rescue

China Mops Up Discounted Urals Cargoes. With two VLCCs chartered over the past couple of days to be loaded from the Skaw ship-to-ship transfer spot off Denmark, both by Chinese companies, it seems that Beijing is capitalizing on plummeting Urals differentials, down to a -$12/barrel discount to Dated.

Do you really not see where your strategy would in all likelihood lead?

I'm not an expert but it's blatantly obvious to most.

Hence the comment.

The general opinion seems to be that Putin is looking to create a legacy as the being the man who restored the Soviet Union which means he will not stop at Ukraine so he has to be stopped. Nuclear weapons? not a chance, who will be left to gaze in awe at this man who restored the Soviet Union because if he does press the button so will everybody else

Of course China will take advantage, but they're not going to be able to buy everything the west doesn't. They'd need ever more storage capacity assuming the restrictions are in place for some considerable time.

How long will the Russians continue to sell stuff on the cheap too?

Spider did!

Still find it astonishing to think that Putin would use them, but it's as if he and Lavrov amongst others might have a bit of a death wish: either we get want we want, or no one gets anything.

Chinese may have something to say though if it looked like they were heading too far that way.

Still reckon Chinese will buy

Along with loads of mineral stocks

Might get interesting if russians down tools

With most of the oil majors pulling out ( Total being the only one left) , when thing start to breakdown they will stay broke, which will hit both oil and gas production

What could China possibly do? Whatever happens, at the moment it looks like WW3 is a very real possibility.

I think China currently have a fair amount of sway with the Russians. Might well be enough to ensure individuals within the Russian hierarchy can stop Putin if it was required.

And talked about withdrawing from NATO don't forget......

Due to many members of NATO not fulfilling their obligation to spend at least 2% of GDP on defence. He may be an orange twat but he called it correctly on that occasion as the few countries that spent the 2% minimum where being taken for a ride, I note that Germany have finally announced this week that they're going to stop swinging the lead.

I’m very pleased someone paying attention, couldn’t be arsed making the same point earlier today. Well done sir.

Aye.

Can understand the German stance- been that way since the war, but time now to pull their weight.

We cannot put forces on the ground, it would be lunacy. There is no perfect answer but we have to go down the sanctions route or we are all screwed.

I wish I had your confidence that he won't see NATO's lack of direct intervention as a sign of weakness and push on into some other nation (if he does manage to overcome Ukraine).

A short tale you may or may not be interested in.

Think I've mentioned on here before that my Dad is married to a Ukrainian. They've been married for 12 years now and both spend 6 months of year in Ukraine.

They have a flat in central Kiev where her two daughters live (31&33) one works for the government but I'm not sure what role she undertakes.

On Monday they went to a village called Vysoke to stay with my dad's wife's sister. Vysoke is approximately 60km west from Kiev. Gunfire could be heard as well as explosions in the distance so they went back to Kiev.

Yesterday morning their farther picked them up and headed west to Lviv (550km) from Kiev. Abandoning the car in the city they took a bus to the Polish border.

Officials on the Ukrainian side checked paper work and said they could pass through but because their farther is 60 he'd have to stay.

I've just had a call off my Dad to say the daughters wouldn't leave him on his own so somehow got someone to smuggle him through in a boot of a car! All in Poland now.

Think his sister lives in Ipswich so he'll be heading there. The girls will be heading for Blackpool where my Dad and step mum live.

Oh... and they brought the dog too.

Chuffed they managed to get out and are now safe.

Great news, pleased for them that they are safe and well

Glad they're all safe.

Unbeknown to me, my mum's next door neighbours are Ukrainian, the bloke has gone back home to fight this week.

He's been living in Little Hulton for a couple of years now, so I'm sure he'll be ok.

Good story.

Truly horrific situation all round. Can fully understand the 18-60 year old bloke situation, but it must make things even more stressful.

Yeah... I think too with his daughters leaving he then has no one. And because he abandoned his car in Lviv he was basically fucked and didn't know what to do. Plus he's 61 in a month's time 😂. Glad he made it through.
