Russian tanks won’t be rolling across Europe…That was never the Russian plan, that fear was used to justify spending billions on Ukraine.

Correct, try telling @Cheesethat though....

I don't think he's got any choice but to say that. After the blood that's been spilt.

Mr Z has been very defiant until now, the winter has set in and the Russians are bombarding the Ukraine energy infrastructure with some force... he knows his population have suffered for 3 years now and maybe their generation and distribution system is on the verge of collapse... then he might be a dead man walking

This situation in Aleppo isn't working out well for Putin. Although I've got my reservations about the groups these rebel forces are made up from. Who am I supposed to stick up for. No wonder there are so many Syrian refugees if those are your options.

So will the folk living in the Russian occupied areas get a choice to be Russian or Ukranian, or Russkranian or Ukrussian

I think you will find that the now occupied states have historically voted for Russian sympathising politicians whereas the western voters in Kiev have voted for the EU leaning candidates... it is a big and multi-factioned country

I've been going to Ukraine since 2010 and made some good friends in Odesa, Lviv and Kiev, they all hate the Russians with a passion

I understood that in the 2010 elections the now deposed (and living in Russian exile) Yanukovych's winning majority was gained in the east and Crimea with very few votes in central and western Ukraine. He was a violent and corrupt man and was removed from office in 2014.

However I only ever visited Odessa and Kiev in the 1970s, fond memories and I still have the carved chess set the old boys (who I never beat) presented me with on leaving Odessa. I will have to submit to your more recent knowledge.

Fabulous country (or was) so sad it will never be the same, Odessa seemed to have the most beautiful girls on the planet

Always going to happen.

Zalensky changed Ukraine to the "Western" Gregorian calendar from the "Russian" Julian calendar last year... Christmas in Ukraine and Russia was shared as 7th January until then... it was a statement attack

Hopefully there'll be reciprocated attacks on Jan 7th.

It was, but then again, isn't every attack a "statement"?
