Do think it will split at some point. Problem is if Russia keep wanting more.

One half could be called Ukraine - the other half could be called Themkraine

This gives a decent overview of NATO's build up so far. I didn't know Germany was refusing to have any part of it.

Turns out Russia isn't just holding naval exercises off Ireland but also in the Med and Pacific. Never knew that had that many serviceable boats!

Can somebody please reassure me that I shouldn't be extremely concerned with the way things are panning out?

@royal white - this is your arena. What do you make of things?

At worst, it’s a scrap at the Far Eastern border of Europe which basically centres around an ageing President with a Stalin fixation trying to secure his legacy.

At best, it’s sabre rattling and a way to keep his army from getting fat.

Bless you Spider. This is what I'll keep telling myself as I try to sleep.

I tend toward catastrophic thinking at times like these!

Extremely concerned for us or extremely concerned for the people of Ukraine? They are two different things.

NATO will build up massively in places like Poland and Romania as a gigantic show of force, but both sides know Russia won't go any further than Ukraine, possibly even Eastern Ukraine as discussed further up the thread. And NATO are not treaty bound to wade into any conflict in Ukraine.

At the end of the day nobody wants a NATO v Russia war, least of all Russia themselves as they know they would take a slapping. Their military has improved massively in recent years, but is still nowhere near the level to compete medium-long term against US and other NATO forces combined.

Putin will be calculating every move he makes to ensure it doesn't come to that. He's mental, but not daft.

I won’t even pretend to know what’s going on. I come on here now to find out what’s happening around the world. Luckily for us Spider has explained it.

Field Marshall Spider if you don't mind! 😁

This could be a game of pootin’s making whereby they do crazy shit and see how much money they can make NATO spend. Knowing that NATO would never leave them too it. As long as it doesn’t get a bit fighty, it’s a win win for russia

Think people are forgetting Russias involvement in Elections and the weakening of the wests economy with their divide and conquer tacticts. Not to mention their involvement in the covid bioweapon.

This has all been planned. Theyll strike and strike the west at the same time.

Russian Tanks on our Streets by easter.

China will steam in too.

Putin will be popular here after all he did get brexit done and plays by his own rules and is corrupt. Actually he sounds like a great leader for the Tories 😂

Far cheaper to conduct cyber attacks and meddle in elections than it is to launch a physical attack. There's no benefit to Russia in starting a war against the west that they would lose.

Putin wants a legacy where he can be seen as a great leader who won respect back for Mother Russia after decades of shame, by making local territorial gains and increasing Russias influence around the world. There's no way he wants his legacy to be as yet another megalomaniac leader who brought Russia to ruin by trying to face up to a superpower and its allies.

Iran and China are a whole different discussion. They're where I'd be investing my worries long term.
