Site Supporter MickyD Posted January 17, 2022 Site Supporter Posted January 17, 2022 Just watched ITV Granada News and they just interviewed a bloke who knew the family of the chap in Texas. He questioned how the ‘authorities’ allowed his passage to USA bearing in mind he has a conviction (didn’t elaborate). What’s the betting the Govt. Agencies; MI5, MI6, Border Force, etc., will all be blamed before the Mosque, the family, the ideologies? Quote
Site Supporter only1swanny Posted January 17, 2022 Site Supporter Posted January 17, 2022 Family have said he had "mental health issues".. So letting him go on Holiday on his own to America was a cracking idea eh.. Hardly a tourist destination where he went to.. Quote

Site Supporter MickyD Posted January 18, 2022 Site Supporter Posted January 18, 2022 The later news said he flew in to JFK and then on to Texas where he bought a gun. Now I may be being cynical here, and I know their gun laws aren’t up to much but flying from Manchester to Texas on 29th December and owning a gun by 15th January must have needed some help. Who the fuck bought the gun and why? (Rhetorical) Also, why did he buy a return ticket for 2nd February? (Also rhetorical)  Quote

Apparently not. If not a US citizen or permanent resident, then generally, no. There are exceptions, all pretty rare, for example temporary residents who have a hunting license. But a tourist is not even a temporary resident, does not have a proper visa for residency, so cannot buy a gun. Quote
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted January 18, 2022 Site Supporter Posted January 18, 2022 Perhaps he bought it off someone dodgy. Would imagine it's not that difficult given the number of guns in circulation. Quote
Site Supporter MickyD Posted January 20, 2022 Site Supporter Posted January 20, 2022 (edited) Just had a recording of his last phone call with his brother on news. His brother was super-calm when asking him why he’s doing what he’s doing. Too calm. He fucking knows what was going on.  Edited January 20, 2022 by MickyD Quote

I imagine most of us would be in shock. Quote

Youri McAnespie Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 Why Texas? There's loads of synagogues twenty odd miles from Blackburn in Manchester. A reactivated replica can be bought locally for as little as a monkey, just buy a prossie a few bags to make introductions and carry a kitchen knife for the meet in case it goes tits up (the gun deal). Members bolty58 Posted January 20, 2022 Members Posted January 20, 2022 Does make you wonder how many 'potentials' are walking around at liberty in northern English towns. Hopefully the security forces keep tabs on most but incidents like this suggest that it is impossible to have it all covered. Great result. No innocents injured, one less arsehole to worry about. There will be thousands of them, and not just in Northern towns - the problem I suppose is what to do if somebody is a "potential" in reality you have to wait until they actually do something sadly, you can't just arrest people because the security forces "think" they have the potential to do something, otherwise they'd probably be arresting dozens and dozens of people each day......which would of course then cause further problems as we knows. We just don't have the resources to monitor everybody, and never will There is no answer to this problem, that isn't very, very extreme...... Quote
