Meanwhile in Israel

Is it kicking off big time or is this just everyday stuff they deal with or a bit of both?

What an upside down, mixed up view of things. No surprise you and Dolty69 swallow it.

For clarity - Israel as a state does exist. Palestine does not. Those with a state are demanding that those without one, recognise their right to exist, which they already do. Righto!

Hamas and plenty others very much don't, though

That's the gist of it.

You can wring your hands and moralise all you want, but it's irrelevant, meaningless and achieves nothing.

Until that fundamental is achieved the status quo remains.

Nothing mixed up whatsoever; that's the practicality of it.

That is the very reason why advanced talks were ongoing with Saudi for example.

Which "coincided" with the initial acts of terrorism, as Iran chose to flex its muscles.

These are facts; they're widely reported by all, and discussed at length. Nothing upside down, inside out, back to front or whatever.

Of course you can choose to ignore all that, and throw supercilious, ignorant comments around- it's routine now- but you won't change a thing out there by it.

Remarkable isn't it: despite every media outlet (perhaps with the exception of one) that we have, reporting the complete opposite.

I thought we'd already established, extremists on both sides don't want the other to exist?

Netanyahu will never allow a Palestinian state while he's in power, despite many many Israelis supporting one.

Palestinian extremists not recognising Israels right to exist are far, far outweighed by those Palestinians who just want a viable state of their own.

Moderates on both sides and internationally, recognise a 2 state solution is the only long term answer.

Impressed by your diplomacy (perhaps you could be useful in that dusty shithole where it's all happening). When they are as numb as fuck, I find it very difficult to remain polite and boy, is he as numb as fuck.

Some glimmer of good news: in a statement by Saudi hierarchy following discussions in Davos, the said they would recognise Israel if a two state solution is found, and Palestinians have their own place. Iirc correctly Blinken is involved too.

An olive branch for sure, whilst playing politics.

Hopefully it will be grasped by all relevant parties.

I doubt Iran will, however if Palestinians have their own place, then they may over time look again at Iran's influence.

Suits the Arab nations too as they don't particularly want an influx of Palestinians neither, but need to maintain "togetherness".

Done the Houthis again.

Good.

I see Hamas have declined the offer of a 2 month ceasefire.

I expect the protest marches will continue

Can't move for protest marches round here!

And that those who've been calling for a ceasefire will make no attempt to apply pressure to Hamas

Well, of course.

They just love to demonstrate. Proper oddballs

Unreal how many around the world have been (mis)led as if by a ring through the nose. No surprise how ill informed they are. Dogma and various mantra's somehow uploaded into impressionable young minds. No doubt who is at the root of this. Teachers unions.

As RW has said, not very well educated oddballs who just enjoy the rent-a-mob demo scene. Boris was right. Water cannons. Still waiting for a politician to propose cattle prod follow up. One day maybe.

“Our youth are being poisoned” she said.

That works both ways I’m afraid. Especially when some of the mob below are now running the show.

She’s right that these protestors don’t have a bloody clue what they’re talking about. Aside from that, she’s just another of these wannabe “reporters” with about as much balance as a spice addict.

it says jerusalem, but i spose it could be sedgeley park?

Well no, not really. We'd have been made aware of it immediately, and there would have been significant reaction.

And that is the very point LW has missed.

The demonstration was espousing hate etc, in Israel, by a group of extremists. Certainly not a good look for them, and one which we dont agree with. There are also significant numbers of Israelis with a very different view.

The point of the earlier clips were demonstrators in other countries, with little or no understanding of what they were protesting about.

Something which the Jewish communities and its supporters don't appear to be doing.

It was another attempt at whataboutery, but wasn't even comparing like for like.

The las in the video makes a lot of good points. She's very vocal in her support of Israel and has worked for the Israeli government. Too centrist for the current extremists running the show in Israel though, as she was sacked a while ago.

She founded the advocate for Israel group and makes some fair arguments about antisemitism and double standards through that work. She also talks a lot of nonsense about most criticism of Israel being antisemitic.

You can't be as vocal as her on this issue and not expect anyone to ask 'well what about the other side?' Especially when you're making far fetched claims such as "Western youths have been poisoned".

It's clear for all to see now that the current government have no desire to see Palestine have it's own state. So hopefully we'll see more Israel's speaking up.

Brilliant 🤦‍♂️

Certainly not what it's cracked up to be all this UN stuff.

A UN transit body has sent lots of refugees to Rwanda- a country that they apparently said wasn't safe, and formed part of the reasoning behind the supreme court's findings.

I wonder how easy it is to manage such a big, dispersed organisation.

It is true that the UNHCR, with financial support from the EU, has transferred refugees from Libya to Rwanda under a scheme called the Emergency Transit Mechanism (ETM).

However, the ETM is voluntary, not compulsory, like the UK's plan. The ETM offers vulnerable refugees, taken into detention by the Libyan authorities, a choice to have their application processed in Rwanda.

Libya - a major transit route for those hoping to reach Europe - is not considered a safe country for refugees.

People moved from Libya to Rwanda by the UNHCR are given assistance to resettle elsewhere should they choose to do so. It says that "as of March 2023, 932 refugees from the ETM centre have been resettled to Canada, Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and USA".
