Fairly sure it was someone like Luton who really did spend the whole of the first half goalie > outfield player > goalie > yawn > outfield player > sleep > goalie then Bolton scored and they just didn’t have a plan b to try to get into the game again. Think we ended up winning 2 or 3 - 0

Bristol Rovers in 1982 and Orient around 1990 are the 2 stand outs for me.  The latter they fecked up a minute from time and Reeves nipped into to score the only goal.

Don't think we played them in 82, we were in a higher division, but if it was early in 1980/81, I remember how bad that game and their tactics were.  But we scored 2 in the last 5 minutes, an OG and a pen!  A pic from that game with them in green & black quarters was used as the cover picture for the rest of the season, replacing that wierd one of Jones, Kidd, Cantello, Walsh and Whatmore in full kit staring at an orange ball being held by Tony Dunne.

That's the one - OG and a pen.  Yes, was probably late 81.  Possibly Gerry McElhinneys debut?

Good knowledge, just checked in programme, that was Gerry's only game till late November, stood in for Jones and after that just seemed to be used as a stand in for Walsh or Burke.

Looking at Sarce coming off, saying to Evatt I'm fucked

He works hard, but I wonder if he is naturally as fit as some. Solidly built and powerful, but maybe not the endurance.

Rudy will be able to shed light on this possibility- does body shape have an effect?

First time I had ever seen Sarc close up... I've cut and pasted what I said the morning after...

Sarcevic was the match winning difference, when you actually see and hear his intensity and focus it's frightening (I was in row C), he has that winning drive about him and was definitely "in the zone".

If there any doubts about his physical fitness, I can tell you from first hand his mental fitness more than makes up for it, when it was dumbing down to a 0-0 he was the difference.

He is definitely Captain material

Love Sarce.

We need a song for him.

Bloody hard work with his surname, though.

There was a mix up with him and Dapo going forward in front of me and he picked up the dead ball and threw it down in frustration and disgust with himself, the ball must have bounced up 20 feet with the force. Then next time he scored.

Just nick gold...I think hibs were first

Indeed, for Rob Jones (hell of a player btw). Suppose we’d have to shorten it to Geth Jones to fit the tune.

Read my post again please.

No doubt about his fitness, but some naturally reach higher levels than others- can see that in the Premier league. He may bit as fit as he ever can be, but others may be able to achieve a higher level.

Read comments from games last season, particularly earlier on: some claimed he wasn't fit whilst others said he came into games late on and scored late goals. Maybe he managed his efforts very well, who knows.

This season, I think he seems to have gone up a level, maybe they've got him on a different programme. As I said, Rudy is your man for this.

Point taken but when you see him in the zone 10 feet away from you he really has that extra intensity. I would be shittin' myself defending against him. He looked 100% captain material

The first game against MKD I was impressed with his defensive work which I thought was better than at times last season.

Maybe it's something the manager has requested as they accommodate Sheehan.

The overall attitude and commitment from the whole team is now streets ahead of where its been for some time. Positive mentality must improve energy levels and vice versa.

Seeing the players live gives you a better idea than last season's having to watch on Ifollow where you can only really see what the camera focuses on.

MJ is bigger & Isgrove is smaller than i thought 😊 but more to the point, you can now see how much effort the players are all putting in & how much ground someone like Sarce covers .....Doyle is another who works tirelessly for the team pulling defenders out of position, a lot of which you can't see on Ifollow.

He’s definitely fitter than this time last year, he has dropped  some timber. As stated the whole team has stepped up a few notches both in organisation and fitness.

Aye, Doyle gets through plenty of unselfish dirty work that doesn't catch the eye.

Fitness and athleticism is important but its only one aspect.  Sarce is the modern Kev Nolan for us, I thought that from the time he scored those late goals at Barrow and Cambridge and home v Mansfield, only certain types of players get those.  Kieran Lee looks the business at times but just doesn't have that scoring potential (for us).  Sarce worth his place for his captaincy/leadership, attitude and will to win/score.
