I get people being fucked about us losing, but some of the shot on here at our own players is really pathetic.

A penalty miss, no problem.

But for me apart from very early in his time with us, Delf has appeared disinterested and lazy.

Lee on the other hand has been the opposite. He wasn't signed as an attacking player neither.

Also, saying Evatt playing Delf means he's happy with him doesn't add up. Of course he's going to support him publicly, that doesn't mean he particularly rates him at the moment.

There's a reason he's not getting near the first team in the league.

Last night was an opportunity to show for either the first team or a move. Doesn't sound like he took it.

No doubt some of the twatter comments are over the top, but the suggestion that he's getting getting abuse purely for missing a penalty is clearly not seeing the whole picture. Lee also missed but isn't getting the same stick. However his contribution has been so much more.

At least somebody has some class

Fwiw, I dont think he looked shit tonight

And don't forget, to anybody calling him lazy, youre actually calling into question his selection by Evatt

Do you really think if he thought he wasn't trying he would get a game...fuck me

What tonight showed, is what most of us know

MJ is irreplaceable and Kachunga is no Doyle

Sarcevic also a massive loss

We only had our 4th choice right sided player available

Brockbank is a great option on the bench but not a patch on Jones

Gordon is an able deputy for Jones

Gilkes takes so much out of our game as he's awful with the ball

Dapo was streets ahead of everybody else first half and they just resorted to kicking him

Our fans who want us to stop passing it about clearly haven't watched us play recently

Anyway, over it by the time I was back in the car

This.

Aye, we're out, move on, but no MJ changes the whole style of the way we play.

I would have preferred Tutte to start to see if he is at all capable of doing that job - if not, he's in the Comley/Crawford group & needs to go.

Yep, woefully short up top, once Baka is injured there's no alternative to Doyle

Quite even first half.

they were certainly the better team second half.

brockbank and delf down the right hand side left us vulnerable.

neither team will win the cup and I said before the game, our league games against them are more important.

 Massively missed mr Williams.

move on, let’s get something at Cambridge.

A game we could've probably done without but disappointing to lose it all the same. Nothing seemed to quite fall in our favour, we even lost both the pregame and prepenalty coin toss!

As others have said, yesterday really illustrated how important MJ and Sarcevic are for us in the middle of the park. I really wanted Brockbank to shine last night, who doesn't want a local lad breaking into the team and becoming one one of our main players? Unfortunately, he really seemed to struggle down that right hand side.

How we react on Saturday is really important now. It was a second round League Cup game, if we lost last night against anyone else it would've been brushed under the carpet. That's difficult to do for us fans due to the opponent, but lets hope it's much easier for the players and they get a result Saturday.

The momentum we have built is incredible and the positivity around the club is something we have been missing for the last decade - we all want (and need!) this to continue!

I don’t often choose to watch from behind the goals. It seems to be the preserve of away days where it’s normally inflicted upon us.

Last night I was pretty much looking down the touch line (where the benches were) and if I’m dead honest, this unfamiliar view of a game probably exacerbated just how bad our right side was pre-substitutions. Brockbank can play with his head up all he wants and needs to if we play out from the back. Delf failed to find a space for his out-ball on pretty much every occasion. This didn’t bother Brocky; he passed it anyway! Our right side was our weak side by far. Gilks isn’t keen on quick distribution either.

I personally have been disappointed that Delf who clearly has talent does not produce more on a regular basis. I would lose no sleep if we replaced him. And in a way I agree that he has 'appeared disinterested and lazy' and looking at our recruitment Evatt sees it as an area we can improve on.
But that does not for me translate into 'he can fuck off'. He played 44 times for us last year, does anyone think you get 44 minutes in an Evatt team let alone 44 games if you are lazy and disinterested ?
Ever since I have watched Bolton there seems to always have been a scapegoat, often deserved, often not. But for me at the moment the overall squad is more together and committed than we have had for years. Although the squad can and will improve I just think singling out players for abuse is the absolute opposite of what Evatt is trying to achieve and build here

I think Evatt recently praised Delf for coming back fitter than he ended last season and his all round work ethic and professionalism, saying that if he’s nit getting in the starting 11 regularly I doubt he’ll be here after this season as he must be one of our higher paid players.

Maybe the criticism of Delf is a bit harsh and we're just spoiled with Isgrove's work rate, particularly when he plays in front of Jones.

I think that’s what I was getting at. The current (league) lineup down the right would be difficult to better at our level. I’d imagine IE would’ve seen plenty enough last night to know what works and what doesn’t.

2 evenly matched teams who cancelled each other out and probably will do in the other 2 games this season. But both be right up there.

first 20 minutes we controlled the ball and looked ok. They came in to it up to HT. 2nd half they pressed us better and we were camped in for a bit but neither side had any clear cut chances. Their 2 changes up front had a greater impact than the Doyle change. There was about 30 minutes where Sheehan didn’t see the ball and it showed. We lost control and they got on top.

as a result I couldn’t give a shit and I don’t about Wigan as a club. It’s their following that piss me off now. They’ve wanted our attention for 30 years and now they have it they claim it’s us who see it as a rivalry 🤬 cunts to a man

Agree re the abuse. As for the player; his body language at times last year was shocking and his effort seemed little better.

Plenty of us have seen it.

Of course Evatt played him and had him on the bench, but we had no one better. More attack/wide players signed this closed season. He obviously feels that's the area that needs strengthening.

Could have gone either way but they edged it in my opinion.

Wigan don’t bother me and a penalty loss matters not.

What does incense me though is the police escort and half hour delay at the end. Totally un-necessary.

It was reminiscent of watching England is the 80’s and 90’s.

I presume the last train to Bolton was delayed to allow for this?

Hope it was.

I thought he did alright last season, got goals and assists then edged out seemingly by Isgrove who appears to put more of a shift in

Delf didn't do much last night but let's face it, had he scored the winning penalty, then whatever

Hero to Zero in a kick of the ball

I don't think anybody on here would say he is a hero.

Those slating him for missing a pen are being a bit harsh, knee jerk reactions from some of our fans after the game, it happens all the time at all clubs, Delfonso even apologised when he didn't need to, every credit to him.

Agreed, what if Evatt had told everyone the names of players who  refused to take one?  Fonz would have then been named as the poor soul who stood up.  Either way its a fucking stupid reason to judge a player.

Didn't go but...

If he'd have scored and someone else missed the decisive pen he wouldn't be getting half the grief today.

I also think he's down the pecking order. That's why he was in the team when we made 8 changes from the league game..

Or is it alphabetical and 'B' would've been an entirely different ball than 'W' ? Thus altering virtually all the draw

Asking for a friend.

Yes. We would have been a different number, as would Sunderland.
