Was having a chat with someone this week about early 2000s indie landfill - now there was some real dross around then. Razorlight, The Pigeon Detectives😄 for some reason I took a real dislike to 00s UK indie band and artists Razorlight, Franz Ferdninand, Bloc Party, Kate Nash, Courteneers, The View, Editors, Futureheads, Maximo Park, Ordinary Boys, Ting Tings i'm sure folk will say the same thing about the 90s but for the most part I found it extremely boring Quote

Saw them recommended in a magazine I read but not got round to listening yet New single out yesterday is a bit twee but up to that been great guitar heavy tunes with the attitude missing from most recent guitar based bands. Hopefully album due soon will give them push on . Quote
tshape Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Yeah there was an awful lot of crap knocking about but then for all that you had some really good stuff like The Cribs. I fucking love The Cribs. Quote

Dr Faustus Posted October 21 Posted October 21 There was a big thing about 00s indie landfill music; personally I think there was a massive explosion started by Arctic Monkeys pushing Rev & The Makers etc into the spotlight. Possibly helped by Xfm going national Then came Mumford & Sons, Noah & The Whale and the whole folk thing to piss on everyone’s chips Quote

I loved Brassbound the Album from Ordinary Boys though as I love ska it's not surprising. Same Jeans by The View, Take Me Out Franz Ferdinand, Futurehead's version of Hounds Of Love, That's Not My Name by Ting Tings are the only good songs from the rest. Quote

Maximo Park were alright, Mumford and Sons second album was nothing like the first and was pretty good but the trend had moved on so even though it wasn't a load of Nu-Folk it didn't get a look in. At that time I really got into that Candian indie thing - but not so much Arcade Fire (Funeral is still a blinding ablum though) but loved Metric and Broken Social Scene's first album is still superb and Fiest as well. Then starting listening to Neutral Milk Hotel's In The Aeroplane Over The Sea which sort of set out that sort of indie's rock music's template and still sounds well ahead of its time. Quote

Yeah - i think they are shit. And I have done. As I say I think some folk are being a bit soft about some people not liking a band. I think (as if you don't put than people seem to get the right old hump) they are generic, musically boring, been-done-a-thousands times before but better meat and potatoes indie that are plain in their songwriting and a bit cringy lyrically. Moderators Casino Posted October 21 Moderators Posted October 21 i'll give you a like for actually explaining and the reason you say theyre shit would require me to be more into music than I am i actually like em not enough to pay money like, but its an easy listen is speedquiz alan still playing with them? ps most of the stuff you suggest we listen to really is shit Quote

Same with Thee Oh Sees - but they also have ferveous fanbases, and honestly, I'm just not that bothered if I like them, then that's all I need. I;m not looking for validation - I guess its like any hobby you like sharing (boring folk) with as many things that get you excitied as you can - like that Kelly Lee Owens release this morning. Quote

Assuming aimed at me- it’s not being soft or sensitive about a band; it’s the fact you insist on telling everyone their tastes etc are shit. Then you go a condescending rampage. It’s tedious I don’t give a rats arse whether you like a band or not, why can’t you comprehend what I’m saying? Quote
