Yep. Here we go again

When the racist abuse stops (online or offline), it will stop getting brought up, and there'll be no need to take the knee - or any other action deemed appropriate to draw attention to the problem.

It might not seem a particularly pressing issue to most of us on here because we've never been subjected to it - and we don't have to worry about our children being subjected to it - but it's an uncomfortable reality that some of our fellow citizens/fans/friends have to face on a daily basis. A considerable minority in our society are ignorant racist fuckwits, and that minority has been getting more considerable and more vocal recently - whether you blame it on social media or politics or whatever. It simply needs stamping out. If you think 'oh, here we go again' over a discussion on an internet forum that you voluntarily visit and can leave whenever you want, imagine thinking 'here we go again' every time you wake up in the morning.

And the idea bandied above that people being racially abused online should "just stop using social media"... Get to fuck. If you genuinely believe that, you're definitely a racist. If you saw a black person being racially abused on a bus, would you tell them to get off the fucking bus? Fuck off.

Let's say, for the purposes of moving on, they realised BLM wasn't a good cause to get behind and decided to take the knee in a gesture against discrimination

They then tell everybody who listens that it's nowt to do with Marxism, nowt to do with defending the police and is purely and simply a gesture to show their stance on discrimination

Once we reach that point, why would anybody boo, unless they think our footballers actually are cop defunding Marxists, at which point they are calling SB a liar

At Last !

What are the options then? Should  they learn to with it/ignore it? Yes it’s totally wrong that these are probably the only viable option, however if the abuse (not just racist)  is having an affect on their life then it’s probably best walking away from it. I’m pretty sure numerous posters on here have left because of the shit they got.

Nothing will ever be good enough for the wokery. Cowardly online racism of the type Elias Kachunga has obviously had to deal with could disappear altogether - but the woke would still carry on with their shrill grandstanding. Why? Because this clearly isn't only about racism, it's about opportunities to show how virtuous you are and how your mind is more pure than everybody else. It's a competition to be top of the class and an ego-trip. As such its in the interests of the woke for racism to always be with us.

By the way - I think you are top of the class on this thread. You've won. Second place would probably be Duck Egg for pointing out to me that my condemnation of the culprit was not condemnatory enough. I clearly need to go to condemnation finishing school and then go to the back of the queue to have another far louder and more febrile attempt at condemning the person responsible.

....... we're all so behind the curve in our non racist ways. We've such a lot to learn before we can aspire to be at the vanguard of the woke social media lynch mob.

You clearly condemn the racism in multiple posts so to be clear I’m not suggesting anything other than the above but it’s the signalling and woke stuff I don’t get? You agree with everyone else on here as stated above?

Admittedly  I pay little interest in the gammon/woke debate but my point being remove that then everyone is in agreement?

Probably best to ignore rather than try to understand it mate. It’s interesting that a lot of threads about football have turned into discussions about racism, which has frustrated a few people. This thread is actually about racism and he’s trying to turn it into politics / wokery.

Wokery is all about one-upmanship isn't it. People who want to prove they are more pure and advanced than the rest. Thus simply being against racism is no longer enough, you need to constantly prove it in a shrill voice.

It's an interesting point you make because if everybody is essentially appalled by what's been said to Elias Kachunga there's no problem. The divisiveness comes from wokes who point the finger of suspicion at people who are far less demonstrative than them  and make groundless accusations of racism against them - which is what happened to me yesterday on here.

It's a mindset that's comparable to the way things work in North Korea and the Warsaw Pact - not enough to support the party, you have to ostentatiously prove it over and over, otherwise you might find yourself in bother.

If the original post at the start of the thread had simply been angry about one of our players being abused in this way it would have been fine ... but the wokery was impregnated with the knee-taking remarks and on it went with others jumping on the bandwagon.

@Cheese i have to say this to you, this is a very hot topic which some people won’t put their neck on the line , you will have people who for whatever reason will disagree with the knee, or not understand the condemning of the boo, and you know what that’s fine, it’s a minority and they leave themselves open to interpretation with their opinions.

As a black man who works in football I know I can come across very opinionated on the subject and I get people are probably sick of me defending the knee, and outside looking in I know there are people on here thinking blah blah blah yawn yawn change the record Rudy, but in all honesty I don’t care, it feels a little lonely sometimes fighting a battle which sometimes feels on your own.

I get frustrated even got to a point recently where I’ve not wanted to post or even go to a game. I know I’m not on my own and I know I’m not the minority but I honestly can’t salute you and a few others( @DazBob @Casino ) , on here enough for speaking sense, and  speaking up. That’s what keeps me on here that’s what keeps me going to games.

Felt weird having to explain to my kid sister what the monkey emojis mean, why people have a problem with skin colour, it’s 2020 ffs

Some of your posts on this topic have made me proud to be a Black Wanderers supporter.
“Woke” “virtue signalling” or any other of that bollocks, that is just a way of people trying to shut people up on a topic they either agree with or are sick of hearing about.

You’re alright by me, it would be my pleasure to buy you a beer.

And for what it’s worth coming off Social media, ignoring it, get on with football, this is what got said to basketballer Lebron James in America a few years ago.

A news anchor on Fox News told him to shut up and dribble, because apparently when a issue strikes you and you’re a highly paid sportsmen you’re supposed to just get on with your job and ignore any form of abuse like you’re a sportsmen first and human being second.

And to the people who are Tired of hearing about it, good, it ain’t going away, we’re tired of dealing with it.

I couldn’t agree more👍Whatever happens don’t stop watching the Wanderers or coming on here because the imbeciles will have won.

How the anchor man described it is obviously wrong, but what are the options? Many people white, black, brown, fat, thin, tall, small just chose to ignore it, some have come off social media. If you ask the families of the 100s of people who have topped themselves s do they wish their loved ones had come off social media they would say yes.

Unfortunately we all know that online abuse is probably only going to get worse for the foreseeable future. These trolls aren’t going away. But how do they combat it?

I don’t like social media anyways because it allows anonymity. They need to crack down on it they have a duty to do so

Teams and sponsors want players to be on social media. It’s written into their contracts it’s not amount money it’s about sponsors putting in a legal obligation that players need to be on social media, it’ll carry on until the social media sites do something or sponsors don’t require it and unfortunately neither seems to be able to happen

I’m still waiting for footballers to show solidarity with other forms of abuse going on in the world, one for you Rudy, let’s start with man city owner mansour and abuse of folk in the UAE?  Let’s see players show solidarity with the abused there….. I’ll be waiting a long time.

So, is it OK to abuse them until they do?

Just asking for a friend.

So basically if they want extra money then they’re going to have to live with it (which is wrong) you’d hope if it was getting to much for anyone they would put their own health over a few extra quid
