Women's Football

I thought the standard wasn't that bad from those highlights.  But that's irrelevant.  What's more relevant (for me) is that nobody gives a toss who wins, apart from those involved.  If my daughter was playing I'd be all over it, but I wouldn't expect anyone on here to care how her match had gone at the weekend.  So why is it given any more coverage than Kings Lynn v Braintree, more people probably care about that than Reading v Brighton women.

That will be the correct figure. Weirdly, whereas it’s long been accepted that men’s teams announce the number of tickets sold (see our crowd on Tuesday), the FA are very insistent that the ‘actual’ attendance is the one announced at WSL games.

There, easily found

Lowest home attendance 1,098 (vs. Aston Villa, 20 November)

And its £10 for league games, £5 concessions.  So gate income generated is maybe £7,500?  Compared to about £1 million per home game for the men (if say £20 average x 50,000).

I'm not having a go at women's football BTW, I'm all for it and I'd love any of my family to be involved, but just don't confuse that with it being for "fans" any more than hockey or basketball is.

I’m doubting there will be many women’s clubs selling season tickets. I imagine the main reason for men’s professional teams posting attendees plus non-attending ST holders is due to the tax implications. When someone buys a ticket but doesn’t attend, the club still needs to declare that ticket income. Same applies for ST although the tax per game from a ST will be significantly lower than the tax per game of an ad hoc attendee.

Announced attendance figures aren’t referenced for tax purposes, clubs can pretty much announce what they want so long as they can provide a paper trail in terms of the actual income.

Most of the womens teams sell season tickets but they’re literally £30-£40 a chuck so there are plenty of non-attendees each game. The FA want only the ‘real’ attendance to be announced as they’re well aware that folk would be poking holes if they announced the ticket sales and only half turned up.

In truth there’s no real reason that attendances are announced other than tradition and willy waving.

The whole thing is Being pushed hard by the tv company’s and I don’t think the interests is really there . I was watching the football scores coming through the other week on sky sports or the bbc and there putting them through with the rest of the results as the games finish has if it’s on the same level . I nearly got caught out checking my bets then realised it wasn’t the men’s football

Me too.  "Arsenal 3 Chelsea 2" and I'm momentarily thinking, cracking game, I'll watch that on MOTD, then it dawns.  Turn on 5 live on a random afternoon and "Man United have signed a striker from Spurs".  They don't tell us when Southport sign a striker from Altrincham so why do they think we're interested?

It really pisses me off that any women’s football gets higher billing than the men’s league pyramid ( BBC results pecking order.)

Absolute shite , they are all virtue signalling to a point of banality.

Spot on.

It’s a total insult to the professional game.

I guarantee you that MotD will start showing both in the same show. The Wimminz Show gets next to no viewers & the BBC cannot tolerate it much longer in their current woke mindset.

They already introduce the occasional woman pundit. Why the fuck would I want to listen to some woman when she’s replaced Shearer or Linaker for the night?

Soz tetchy. If you actually read anything else if posted on the topic, you'll realise I'm in full agreement. Just pointing out there is similar disparity in the men's game.

Go catch a fish
