Pompey Away

The Newcombe arms was fantastic for us a few years ago, but it helps if you have a Pompey invite.

Lots of Portsmouth lads knew Fearny from the England scene &  a good few had travelled up to Bolton for his funeral a few years previous. They were expecting us the day we went and they couldn’t have been more welcoming, giving speeches to welcome Bolton fans & buying us beers etc, there were some rum looking fuckers though from the old 657 firm.

A top day out, that ended in defeat.

Is anyone familiar enough with Portsmouth to be able to pre-plan a pub.

Anyway, probably Wetherspoons.

As if any plan lasts 5 minutes before everyone is split across every pub in whichever town we're in arguing on the phone about where we should be 😀

Is that the one Milan Maderic came in and spoke to the fans, then we had a minutes silence for Ferny.   I'll be in the Newcolme +3

Tbh i can’t remember Manderic coming in, but we spent a lot of the time having a drink outside. Iirc it was a bit of a trek from the ground and we would never have found it if we hadn’t had the help of our Pompey “guide” I remember Tony Kelly was in there & that Westie who wears the daft Pompey hat. It was a top day out, apart from the match obvs.

Just noticed we’ve got 2 cup games after this.

So almost two weeks gap to our next league game after Pompey.

If we can get a point or 3 at Portsmouth, then the team has time to iron out some issues before the next League game against Crewe on November 12. A winnable game.

Then we have Wycombe which will be a tough one but Doncaster and Cheltenham should be winnable too.

Amaechi should be back sometime soon.

Turn our form around in November and carry that into a busy December and we could fly up the table.

Pompey have won one in 10, Cowley's not the most popular.  Not unlike when we went there under Hill two years ago and the home fans were very restless against Kenny Jackett.  They were poor but we let them get away with a 1-0 win (sounds familiar).

Our support was great that day too, 824 went and we were on -9 points, 18 from safety!  15 points behind Sol Campbell's Southend, 27 points behind Bristol Rovers.  How times have changed.
