The world's gone mad when you can't turn up at a glorified reserve game and pay to get in on the night.

There’s a bit more to it than that tbf in terms of overall organisation. How much of the stand do you open extra in case folk turn up, what do you do if that isn’t enough space for walk ups, how many turnstiles do you dedicate to cash or tickets, how many police do they need etc. All even more of an unknown for a game like this than compared to normal. Rochdale are skint and playing it safe, it seems.

I know you're clued up on this but is it not a bit naughty to force people to buy online and upfront AND  charge for the privilege

I do get that, but for one we're talking about a nothing game, with the best will in the world we aren't going to take more than 1,200.  Its only a couple of years since that game against Bradford when it was £5 to get in and anything between 3k and 12k could have turned up, was it about 9k or something, and part of the fun was they had to keep opening up different sections.  Football crowds were far more unpredictable in the days before the majority had season tickets and they managed.  It feels like a sad day when I can't decide in the morning that I want to go to Cheltenham v Morecambe because I happen to be visiting relatives in the area.

I think legally they are actually supposed to offer an alternative service that doesn’t include any booking fees, but I suppose that will have been put on ice while places can still (unjustifiably IMO) use Covid as an excuse. Personally I think the system costs (effectively covered by the £1 per ticket booking fee) should be absorbed by the club, particularly given the lack of alternative options for fans, but again there’s probably an argument that it would just prompt ticket prices to go up by a quid instead. Ticketmaster charge a fortune for using their system, and have lost clubs hand over fist recently. There are plenty of other providers out there if the club wanted to take a leap of faith and shop around for a cheaper deal.

Bit different with an away crowd, particularly one like ours that has a comparatively high percentage of people who prefer paying at the gate for one reason or another. Run of the mill league games will never be entirely no pay on the day (I wouldn’t include Wigan away in that FWIW), but it might just be a case of having to buy online that morning rather than necessarily handed over cash at the gate. Evolution, I suppose.

Another chance for some squad players to get some game time and press for a starting place. Struggling to rotate up front so sticking with Doyle and Kachunga to try and get on the scoresheet might be an option.

Gilks

Brockbank

Baptiste

Johnstone

Gordon

Thomason

Sheehan

Comley

Delf

Kachunga

Doyle

I completely get where your coming from and respect your opinion, but mine is that getting on the scoresheet in a meaningless cup v L2 opposition is irrelevant.  Doyle, Fonz and Baka have scored 5 goals in 2 games in this competition.  Its reserve team football, it has no bearing whatsoever on the league and the only statistic I want at 10pm Tuesday is that no first teamers have been injured or sent off.

This; we only should be concentrating on the FAC

I'd want as many as our preferred first XI for the league game to miss the Papa Johns and spend the week working on the training pitch together as a unit. Eoin Doyle will score goals if we play to his strengths. We're currently not playing to anyone's strengths.
