My gripe is weak management, job for the boys dress it up but that is what it is It really isn’t jobs for the boys. It’s working with someone he can trust (not easy in football) and someone who will work well with the players There were 2 reasons we fell away so badly last season. One (huge) reason was injuries. This appointment should be your clue as to the other.

I'd have thought most managers assemble their own back room staff mostly comprised of folk they know and trust Especially in league one

Farrelli
More Assistants the better for me. Hopefully when we produce a Wembley type performance one of them might say “Ian, I don’t think this is working today”.

Site Supporter Ratwhite Posted June 26 Site Supporter Share Posted June 26 Crainey – who joins Wanderers after ending a spell as first-team coach at Wigan Athletic – will work under Evatt and alongside fellow assistant manager Peter Atherton, first-team coach Matt Craddock and goalkeeping coach Matt Gilks. Worth its weight in gold on its own................

A reasonable response might be how many other teams, require two assistant managers, as well as a manager and coach?

Why don’t we try to follow our own path instead? You’d think we’d spunked our entire transfer budget on someone putting out the cones and bibs when in reality all of the coaching staff will be on relative buttons compared to the playing squad. If IE feels it’s necessary - and let’s not pretend he won’t have had to sell this to the board - then that’s good enough for me.

Whether it turns out to be a good or a bad appointment, it's for the club to decide how many they want as part of the management team.
