I did jury service once. A bunch of Scouse hoodlums being done for affray, threatening behaviour, GBH etc. The fecking time wasted was stunning. There's no day's leave for the King or Queen's birthday, or day of death, either, just the standard bank holidays like everyone else. One privilege day, in theory for the King's/Queen's birthday but in practice allocated to the day after the Boxing Day bank holiday (not on a day of the employee's choosing). The courts don't sit between Christmas and New Year (although the court and the offices are still open) because solicitors and the Criminal Bar break for the festive period, so it has no impact on the backlog or court sitting days.
