Traf
Providing the defence stays fit, the backlog of games should br fine, we've so many midfield/forward possibilities right now.
Ani
To prove I am always right I will repeat that we just need an experienced centre half to play alongside Santos. Harsh to criticise when it must be 5 hours since we conceded. To prove I am not always right think Declan John has stepped up his performance in recent games. The difference a couple of wins and growing confidence make is incredible.
Site Supporter Tonge moor green jacket Posted February 1, 2022 Site Supporter Share Posted February 1, 2022 Confidence will be high, and as long as we're doing well, the number of games may be a blessing. Reduce the training, and some of the more mundane stuff and let them concentrate on and enjoy playing the games. Competition and resting some should be possible without unduly affecting the team. When will Amaechi be back fit?

It’s not the end of the world if we don’t make the playoffs and like others have said we’re well set for next season, but momentum and togetherness has never felt this good since arguably Big Sam’s days. I also think Evatt and the board still have designs on the playoffs. Only takes one loss for the "Evatt OUT!" lot to parp up again.

JOGLER
I believe the plan (from City & Bolton) is for us to keep Trafford, on loan, for the next 2 seasons.
Mutley
Best position the squad has been in for a long time. Hopefully Joe Ironside takes up his interest in joining Bolton next window as we are still a striker short. mutley x

paulhanley
Wasn't sure what to make of this from IE in the BN this morning https://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/19961232.bolton-wanderers-boss-ian-evatt-makes-statement-summer-recruitment-plans/ I do understand when he says the summer will be less busy - however it worries me a bit when he says there are only bits and pieces to sort in terms of squad depth. To get us to a standard to be Championship challengers and give us a solid position to build on should we get there I think we need: * two new central defenders of a higher standard than we currently have; * two new holding midfielders - better than the current squad; * a new left-back to give Declan John competition; * Marlon Fossey and James Trafford being made permanent/signings to the same standard if they're not available or can't be afforded. I reckon that's seven summer signings needed and I'd be releasing Baptiste, Gordon, Tutte, Delf and hoping to move on Aimson, Kachunga and MJ Williams to provide the squad space. I'd expect Baptiste, Tutte, Gordon & Delp to exit, as suggested by Mr. Hanley. Each to be replaced by a higher level version. I'd like a murderous, old school, defensive midfielder though wonder if that fits the Evatt bill. Fossey, absolutely, but he may get other offers. Geography, and pay, will influence that. Trafford, OK to look to extend the loan. I'd be amazed if Citeh want to let him go. But a good quality, Chamionship level keeper is vital and I remain amazed at Evatt's view of goalkeepers. Get a proper one in ffs. I doubt we'll see Ameachi next year. Poor lad's had awful luck but I don't see a player better than we have out on the wings. He'll sign a strong Centre back to join Santos in there.
Moderators Casino Posted March 2, 2022 Moderators Share Posted March 2, 2022 on amaechi, ive seen nowt to say hes another dapo but, he may get the gig if dapo needs replacing next year....if he wants it he has a lot to do in the next 2 months though i share your view on aimson - solid 100% er, good pro theres room for players like him, especially if baptiste hangs up his boots

Mantra
Don't think we need 2 centrebacks and 2 centre mids. One of each would do the job if we recruit to the same standard that we did with Morley, Fossey, Charles. 2022/23: CM: Dempsey, Morley, MJ, Lee. + one new signing - (Tutte and Thomason leave permanently and on loan) CB: Jones, Santos, Johnston, Aimson. + one new signing - (Baptiste leaves) Do agree @paulhanleythat John needs better competition at LWB. Gordon has been pretty decent for us this season but probably need an upgrade. RWB raises the most questions. Firstly depends on whether Fossey stays. Secondly, if we sign another centreback then you possibly could have Jones and Fossey vying for that wingback role but more likely Jones keeps his spot at RCB. Thirdly, can Isgrove be good competition for Fossey if we keep both?

"Championship level" is pretty vague. Difference between Fulham and Peterborough is huge. Only 3 players in this squad I think could step up to Champ level right now. Charles, Santos, Dapo. (Probably controversial but that's just my opinion). Let's not forget that we aren't recruiting journeymen anymore like 2012-2019. We have a core of good young players with lots of potential. Even MJ Williams is only 26! MJ, Morley, Jones, Fossey, Johnston, Dempsey all have their best years ahead of them and are capable of developing into Championship level players. And we have a few lads who have played Championship level not long ago, Bodvarsson, Kachunga, Lee.

paulhanley
Agree with folk who say Aimson is a solid 100 per center but I just think we need to set our sights higher to be at the top of this league. Same goes for MJ. If we don't replace both we'll need to use them when there are injuries. That's fine if our ambition is to be between 8th and 15th in League One. But that's not our ambition. Maybe the reality is that we need more than one transfer window to evolve in to being the squad required to dominate League One? Feel sorry for Liam Gordon ..best can be said is that 12 months ago nobody thought he was football league standard. He's proved that he is. Just not at the level we want to head for.
