Bloody hell our already depleted song list will be non-existent soon! I’m pretty happy with most of them mentioned if it gets some atmosphere going.

That said I can’t abide the Munich chants (other anti Man U sings ok- but they all seem to lead to the Munich ones)

This!

I'm just glad we're making any kind of noise.  The cringiest thing is we rarely sing owt new or original and most of it I was singing on the paddock in the 80s.

Time for the yoof to pull their fingers out and come up with modern equivalents of Who's that coming up the hill and We keep chickens in our backyard

I only get jokes if they're told by Stewart Lee.

Which of our repertoire from the paddock in the 80s do you think we’re original back then? I’d guess not a single one.

Most football songs are shit & always have been.

The thing is, no matter what the song is, if it’s song loud & by a lot of people, it lifts the players make no mistake.

I remember as a kid in the Lever End, the vast majority of songs were sung by about 100 fans at the most.

There were exceptions of course.

Oh when the whites go marching in, when sung by the whole of Burnden Park was hairs-on-back-of-neck fantastic.

First time I heard that, around 1977, it gave me the shivers it was that loud.

Although we can't claim it as an original given that it was Southampton's song presumably, but I've not heard a sound quite like it since.

It stopped sounding great when the terraces started speeding it up and making it a staccato call and respond chant rather than a legato song.

That’s the difference between Oh when the whiiiiiiiiiites Go marching iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin and Oh when the whites (Oh when the whites) Go marching in (Go marching in)

Well i listed 2 from the 70s that were still relatively new in the 80s! The main new one I remember in the 80s was Wolves away in 1984.  We are the one and only Wanderers.  Still going strong today!

I started a "BO HAAAAAnsen" chant in Cardiff against Preston that lasted about 10 seconds, and I felt like an absolute hero.

Isn’t that how Spurs sing it?

The slower version of ‘when the x go marching in’

I was watching a Spurs game a few weeks ago and the do indeed sing the slower version although that, too, speeded up after a while.

Absolutely spot on (and I've learned a new word, legato, thanks).  When I heard it upto about 1981 it was sung with real attitude, like it was a massive statement of fact.  I still like the song for its tradition and sound but its all a bit half hearted in comparison.  I always join in, for old times sake and in the vain hope it never dies out (same reason I join in with We're By FAR The Greatest Team).
