I’m pretty happy with most of them mentioned if it gets some atmosphere going. That said I can’t abide the Munich chants (other anti Man U sings ok- but they all seem to lead to the Munich ones) This! I'm just glad we're making any kind of noise. The cringiest thing is we rarely sing owt new or original and most of it I was singing on the paddock in the 80s. Time for the yoof to pull their fingers out and come up with modern equivalents of Who's that coming up the hill and We keep chickens in our backyard Quote
Ani Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 We are banning fans for celebrating and now singing is basically cringey. right laugh going a game Quote

I’d guess not a single one. Quote

Burndens Bogs Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 (edited) Most football songs are shit & always have been. The thing is, no matter what the song is, if it’s song loud & by a lot of people, it lifts the players make no mistake. I remember as a kid in the Lever End, the vast majority of songs were sung by about 100 fans at the most. There were exceptions of course. Edited February 10, 2022 by Burndens Bogs Quote

Oh when the whites go marching in, when sung by the whole of Burnden Park was hairs-on-back-of-neck fantastic. Quote

First time I heard that, around 1977, it gave me the shivers it was that loud. Although we can't claim it as an original given that it was Southampton's song presumably, but I've not heard a sound quite like it since. Quote

It stopped sounding great when the terraces started speeding it up and making it a staccato call and respond chant rather than a legato song. That’s the difference between Oh when the whiiiiiiiiiites Go marching iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin and Oh when the whites (Oh when the whites) Go marching in (Go marching in) Quote

Still going strong today! Quote
Site Supporter Cheese Posted February 10, 2022 Site Supporter Posted February 10, 2022 I started a "BO HAAAAAnsen" chant in Cardiff against Preston that lasted about 10 seconds, and I felt like an absolute hero. Quote

Venetian White Posted February 10, 2022 Posted February 10, 2022 Whilst we’re at it, the new one we sing for Trafford could do with a bit of lyrical work. IMO. Quote

When I heard it upto about 1981 it was sung with real attitude, like it was a massive statement of fact. I still like the song for its tradition and sound but its all a bit half hearted in comparison. I always join in, for old times sake and in the vain hope it never dies out (same reason I join in with We're By FAR The Greatest Team). Quote
