The one which always grates on me watching from afar is the "(insert anyone) ran away, because of Boxing Day". Playground stuff.

Spoke to a Sheffield Wednesday fan about this. Both Wednesday and f’Blades sing this so presumably both also claim victory in the terrace battle which went on before, during and after the game.

Wigan Wigan Wigan

Talking of shit chants and particularly shit Wigan chants,

You are my sunshine, my only sunshine

You make me happy when skies are grey.

I never notice how much I love you

until you take my sunshine away

It’s just a song, nothing at all to do with football generally or Wigan specifically and they don’t actually sing the third and fourth lines correctly; the actual words were

You’ll never know just how much I love you,

please don’t take m sunshine away.

But what actually makes my teeth itch is that after each run through they sing “all together now” which completely screws with the beat of the song the non-musical wankers!

On a similar theme, they use the three syllable ‘Athletic’ to fit in with the two syllable Carnival de Paris gap. Fuckwits.

Just YouTube surfed my way to this.

And suddenly remembered this tune as a terrace chant at Bolton.

The words were;

Aye, aye yayai Si, Si, señora

My sister, Belinda, she pissed out the window and filled up my brand new sombrero.

I just don’t know if it actually led to anywhere regarding the football chanting.

For a moment, I thought you were going down the  route of:-

Aye, aye, aye, aye,

Eddie is better than Yashin,

Ron Phillips is better than Eusebio

And (Preston, Blackburn, Blackpool etc.) are in for a thrashin'.

The ones I could never get me head round were that wierd chicken song . As Im not from the Bolton area I didnt have a clue what it was about.

Wanderers sang to the tune of Karma Chameleon ...as it didnt scan.

And the, One Man Went to Mow......Only ever heard it sang all the way through once and that was at wembley in 89.

One man went to mow was always a Chelsea song and still is.

We used to have our own version of the Leeds song "Marching on together" as well. Bit cringeworthy!

Why would super sonic baseball bat have feet? Ergo, rubber jonnies?

Not a conversation I thought I’d be having today

I am sure a few will remember an earlier 'chicken' song which started:

"I'm a knock kneed chicken, I'm a bow legged hen....."

I ain't had a shag since I don't know when*.

I walk with a wiggle & a squiggle & a squawk.

Doing the Bolton .... boot walk.

Naaaah, na, na na-na nah, nah na-nah (& repeat twice) ..... Doing the Bolton .... boot walk."

*Quite some song for a then 12yr old who never had Doc. Marten's.

..or a shag?

Many opposing fan mobs on the other side of the DMZ froze and stared open mouthed when the Lever End sang that.

Slightly different wording from the north side of town

"I'm a knock kneed chicken, I'm a bow legged hen

I've never been so happy since I don't know when

I walk with a wiggle and I talk with a squawk

Doing the Bolton .... boot walk.

Na, na, na na-na nah, nah na-nah (& repeat twice) ..... Doing the Bolton .... boot walk."
