He's a terrific PROSOECT, and decent enough at this level now. But there's still a way to go.

As said above, he knows the defence & there's a comfort in him but if he doesn't arrive there will be dozens of capable keepers around. What's needed is a prompt decision by both clubs, and Trafford.

It's perfectly possible they've already decided.

More about the continuity

I'm sure IE could find another Dapo, Fossey and Santos but would rather start where we left off

Plus we've had two seasons fucking around with keepers that have set us back till Christmas

I'd rather sign a permanent than have him on loan.

Get him on loan with an option to turn it permanent at the end of the season and a buy-back clause for Citeh. Everyone's happy.

As Zico said the continuity of having him is almost as valuable as his ability itself. As much as I trust Evatt and Markham on transfers the keeper situation has been the one that has let us down most. He's a great shot stopper and has bags of potential. Goalkeeper is arguably second most important position to have quality in. For that reason I hope we pull out all the stops to see him return.

That lazy line they always add when a player signs a new contract: "keeping him at the club until 2027".  What % of players are kept at the club for the duration of their contract?  But when they leave, they can expect a decent fee.  Anelka "committed his long term future to Bolton" when he signed a new 4 year contract, supposedly.

On Trafford, assuming he's got a pay rise, I would be interested to know how that effects what we pay him, whether we have to cover his entire wage or if our financial commitment is unaffected.

I'd presume it's unaffected considering his contract with us was signed beforehand.

Anelka did that, at some cost to himself, knowing her be leaving but ensuring us a decent fee.

Trafford ? Citeh have ensured that when they sell him they'll get a fee. Meanwhile he'll see new, better, more established keepers brought in.

After years of spending big to catch up to the big 4, they are now in a league of their own and for that reason can actually be profitable in the transfer window if they want to be while still making marquee signings.

1. As Barry says, they can sell fringe players for decent sums because they're still talented and got potential.

2. Can get cheaper deals because of their pull. Signings Haaland + Kalvin Phillips for under 100m combined. David Moyes said they bid more for KP than City but obviously KP will always choose City so no point in Leeds accepting a higher offer if KP wouldn't sign for them.

3. Their squad is at such a high level now, they can sell even senior pros and still have the best team in the league. Even selling Sterling, Jesus and Fernandinho, they have all been replaced immediately and even if they didn't replace them, they have Rodri, Mahrez and Foden.

They are absolutely smashing it out of the park and it'll be tough for others to catch up unless Pep leaves and even if he does they still have a formidable operation to rely on.

They just sold a keeper who has a grand total of 66 appearances in leagues 1 and 2 for £15M FFS 🤣

granted he looked decent at our place but that’s their model. We couldn’t afford Trafford at a tenth of that

Whose that?

Gavin Bazunu, on loan at Portsmouth last season, think he’s gone to Southampton

Meanwhile United don't want (can't?) Spend any of their summer budget on a back up keeper now Henderson gone to Forest. That's why they not going for their first choice, (Watford keeper) as he would cost a fee. So picking up some Albanian for nowt.

Loving this transfer window so far for United. They are actually going backwards at moment.  Also Barcelona finances so screwed that anyone dealing with them has to be very careful. They want Rapinha but don't want to pay an instalment until next year! Real fear they could be in admin by then!
