TM Trotter
Two teams on holiday. BUT, I don't say that negatively, that second half especially was, (goal aside - offside?) fairly decent. And Portsmouth really do look a threat. Early candidate for automatic contenders alongside us next year? I don't know, but they looked very well drilled for a side midtable. Either way, signings aside, can't help but feel this team will be knocking on the door in 12 months time.
Mantra
1-1 fair result, despite some bullshit going against us as usual, Pompey made good chances that forced us into some last ditch defending. Still a lot of work to do to get this team to be challenging at the top of the division. We're not a million miles off but plenty to be tightened up on. He’s a victim of his own versatility, can do a decent job filling in and not really nailing down a position. No idea his best position. The modern day Henrik Pedison 50 minutes ago, Morizio said: I thought Dempsey was going to be sent off. Charles and Sadlier having a tiff over who was taking the penalty. Sadlier wasn’t letting go. Dadi was definitely fouled in the box. BOD gave Charles a bit of a hug to say it'll be reet. Reckon Charles is crunching for a goal after he dry spell and recent missed chances. I remember the reverse happening at Burnden park at home to Southampton in the FA Cup. Tony Kelly timed his run to perfection just before the halfway line as their back line stepped up ala Arsenal. Clean thru only the keeper to beat 20 yards clear of any defender and the ref blows for offside assuming the flag went up only to turn round and see no flag from the lino . Still brings blood to me shoulders !
Mantra
Not fully convinced by 3-5-2 especially with this personnel. Maybe with a Fossey + a new central defender + a pre-season under our belts it'll be better, but some square pegs in round holes tonight. Sadlier and Dapo both did well in their roles but it's clearly not their best positions. Sadlier doesn't have the pace and athleticism for 90 mins at RWB, and Dapo while better tonight than recent games still nowhere near as good as he is on the left wing. Charles was off it again tonight I thought, worked hard as ever but some misplaced passes and poor touches saw our attacks fizzle out a few times. Aimson is a liability at times. At least when Santos makes a mistake he has the physicality to recover. If Aimson fucks it, he's done for. Kachunga showed a really nice burst of pace to win the penalty and Bodvarsson is a very consistent player. Thought Declan John was outstanding, especially first half. Nailed on. Dion wanted that penalty, in fact he wanted it really bad. Sadlier must be a bit of a butch fucker on the training ground, because he got his own way, grabbed the ball & waived DC away. Dion was the first to congratulate Sadlier after he slotted it in. The rest is history, & a 1-1 draw. Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted April 6, 2022 Site Supporter Share Posted April 6, 2022 Seemed very flat yesterday but maybe that’s influenced by the crowd being flat. It’s been a decent season but everyone seems ready for it to end now. Aimson barely put a foot right and Johnstone goes to bits for 10 minutes after we concede. I like Johnstone but that has to change with him. I like Dempsey, he’s going to be quality for us once he gets a proper run sorted but we have to find a way of getting the ball to Charles quicker. Both Dempsey and Morley slowed things down a few times when Charles had made a run wanting the ball down the channels. Not a bad game but not great either. Nice to have no pressure

Weve been absolutely superb in every transfer window since FV took over, why the hell shouldn't we expect more of the same? We have improved and you cant ask anymore than constant improvement. I would settle for the play offs next season. I think it will be tougher than the fans expect. There are some decent sides in this league. One hell of a queue forming at the top of League 1. Add the relegated sides and that makes it even more difficult. Its going to have to be a serious strengthening job defensively/holding midfield if we are going to jump to the front of that queue.

Moderators Horwich Posted April 6, 2022 Moderators Share Posted April 6, 2022 We need to improve on goals from many areas of the pitch before we are really pushing for promotion.

Seems to be a lot of folk saying we're not a million miles off and then listing 5 or 6 positions we need to strengthen, that's half a team and we can't afford to the first half of the season off like we have this year and last. barrycowdrill
Took some effort from Aimson to be the worst player on the pitch by some distance but only played half the game he had a shocker. DazBob
Aimson simply isn't a 'footballing' centre back, therefore won't ever fit into our style of play. If Santos is out now until the end of the season then I can't see that we have any other options than him until then.

I was saying last night the last time Santos was out and Aimson played in the centre he didn’t do much ball playing he was just heading and blocking which he did well at doing. That’s his game. But last night? Jesus. He looked petrified to even do that their big lad up front came in to the game immediately Edited April 6, 2022 by barrycowdrill
