A draw was a fair result against one of the best ( but toothless ) teams we've played this season......if they get a decent striker , they'll be up there next season.   & their keeper was the best i've seen with his distribution !!

We're clearly missing Fossey, or a Fossey type player on the right, but MJ & Kachunga both did well when they came on.

I was saying last night the last time Santos was out and Aimson played in the centre he didn’t do much ball playing he was just heading and blocking which he did well at doing. That’s his game. But last night? Jesus. He looked petrified to even do that

their big lad up front came in to the game immediately

Big lad upfront was David Hirst's son. Yoof has done the dirty with his sister.

I thought last night had very much an end of season feel to it, they had a bit more to play for than us and it showed at times. Playing Dapo as a ten has changed one of our better players into something much less effective, blunted his attacking and his tracking back ain't great. 2 in midfield leaves us short. I would prefer 3 midfield players and really make wing backs push on.

If we’re honest if we get Fossey and Trafford back we probably need a CB & DM. Sheehan Lee and Isgrove to come back in

These 2 back I'd say that it's squad depth we need. That line up last night with Fossey in at RWB will be formidable.

Need player of similar quality in defense to challenge and cover injuries to the 3 we've got. There's a marked drop in quality if any of them are missing.

Probably why Sadlier will be useful next season

I’m at the stage now where we either take a punt on Dapo playing up top, or we cash in and try to get a specialist ‘10’. Sadlier at RWB did disrupt the flow somewhat. You’d have thought he’d have been more of an attacking option, but he didn’t offer much of an outlet to Jones (and neither did Fossey with Aimson against Cambridge tbf)

Was impressed with Pompey early on but they faded fairly quickly. Draw a fair result for what was typical end of season fare really.

I think it will be tougher than the fans expect.

There are some decent sides in this league.

I agree with this.

7 out of the top 10 will justifiably all feel they have a chance of promotion next season. And a lot of those sides have looked pretty good against us this season.

Add to that Derby who if they sort themselves out will be a danger together with clubs like Peterborough and Barnsley who’ll fancy their chances of bouncing straight back, it’s not going to be the breeze some people think.

I dread to think of some of the comments of the Evatt out brigade when we are only 10th at the end of August.

Derby could potentially drop down again mess of a club

It’s a complete unknown with them really isn’t it? At this stage they are as likely to storm to the title as they are to crash and burn to the bottom tier.

They bosses the first half, we bossed the second.

Draw was a fair result for me.

That's not the game I watched.  In the 2nd half they were easily the better team up until around the time Kachunga came on.

Pompey looked more organised and slicker than us, and Trafford was more involved in the 2nd half than I've seen him in a home game (and he looked very assured).  Not a criticism of our performance, but a reminder there's work to be done to be a top 6 team next year.

Yes, definitely a reminder he shouldn't be written off.

There's a pattern developing where the subs coming on look far better than the same player when they start a game.

Arguably Dempsey, MJ, Kachunga, Sadlier, Baka and Bod fall into this category.  Come on as sub, make an impact.  Start a game, not such an influence on the game.  It says a lot about how games open up, players tire, etc.

But good to see MJ and Kacha can still have an impact, news of their demise may have been greatly exaggerated.

As with the general consensus, I also felt a draw was a fair result. It was proper end-to-end stuff at times. They looked half decent and we weren’t too far away either. Charles just needs that goal to re-ignite his season (what little is left of it). The shot he blazed out for a throw was a great opportunity, albeit an acute angle to score from.

Centre back and a hard tackling general in the middle of the park would definitely be on my shopping list. In addition to securing Trafford for a season-long loan and possibly Fossey.

I do worry about Declan John’s injury record. I’ve lost track of the times he’s been in or out.

I think Dapo has looked lively as a second half sub at times and made more of an impact than from when he’s started.

How good was their goalkeepers distribution! as someone stated they targeted our left side but it was mainly through the accuracy of the goalies kicking. On one occasion in the second half they were in our box after just three  passes the first being the goalies kick.

He looked good, according to Wiki he's only 20.  City paid £420k for him from Ireland and he played 29 games for Rochdale last season on loan.  Now on loan at Pompey and played all season.  Any chance of getting him here next year?  Easier for City to watch him if he stays in North!

Citys development chap was there last night, and I think Andy Edwards as well. He’s in the England set up not sure what level though.

Looked more like 442 to me tonight.

I thought it was 4 at the back 2nd half; Sadlier pushed further forward and when the ball was dead it was clear he was at least half way whereas John was in a typical fullback position.  Not 4-4-2 though as Dapo was playing as a No 10 rather than winger.

I agree with that.  I got a bit over optimistic around the time we were scoring for fun but there's been a bit of a wake up call watching the organisation and solidity of Plymouth, Pompey, MK Dons.  Added to that, the goals have dried up a bit, which doesn't help!

Good info on the development chap, but presume you mean Ireland not England!  Again according to Wiki, he's played 10 times for Ireland already, that seems hard to believe at his young age but he's played for U21s too so obviously highly rated.  I know we've only seen him once but looking at his career to date its a real coup for Pompey to get him and hard not to compare him to Trafford if we're talking about getting a young loanee next season.

I must admit to being critical of MJ most of this season, but credit where it’s due and i agree that he looked back his best when he came on.

Maybe he needed a rest.

He had 2 weeks off before Wigan and 3 days off before last night 😁 but I agree, that's the MJ we want to see.  Only mistake he made was having a shot when we were in an attacking position, he's as bad as I've seen in a BW shirt and that's saying something.

It was unfortunate that the nice interchange between Charles and MJ wasn't the other way round and Charles ended up in that position for the shot in the 90th, but I think most players for any team and with any ability would shoot given the angle and bit of space.

It’s the MJ you want to see, only one mistake yet he gets your accolade as at least joint worst you’ve seen in a Bolton shirt.

I'm talking about his shooting ability.  Its on a par with Santos's attacking headers, weak and without direction or conviction.  We've watched a lot of midfielders over the years that should leave shooting to others, and MJ is right up there!
