the keeper may have milked the challenge but he looked - to the referee - like he was taken out in mid air, then received treatment on the floor

i think he claims he never hear the whistle and assumed it was just an uncontested drop ball

my view, its a misunderstanding and the ref shouldve ordered a retake

The ref could have done that- it certainly would have looked a bit bizarre to him. That said the position of the other players suggests they all knew it was a free kick so the ref may have decided that the keeper should also have known. Strict perhaps, but technically correct.

That's my take: I have some sympathy as it's an innocent 'senior moment' but he's ballsed up at the end of the day.

Yeah he's ballsed up. I dont think you can blame the ref having seen it. You can clearly see the Fishy Ones appealing to the Ref they clearly knew keeper had ballsed up so no win situation for ref. He had to award the 'foul' . Scabby bastards tho if that keeps them up.

Ref could have had a bit of common sense and treated it like taking a free kick when it’s a moving ball - ie just asked him to retake (and add an extra few seconds if Fleetwood were concerned about time wasting).

But if it’s a decision that helps relegate Morecambe, well done that ref.

He may have copped a load from the Fleetwood players then though- they were appealing immediately- and sticking to the letter of the law was easier.

Anyway, as to the game on Saturday; we could possibly send them down.

Wimbledon are at home to Accy, so should have a chance of a win.

Fleetwood play Sheffield Wednesday this week, and then us.

A goal difference of 8 (effectively 9 because of goals scored) would have to be made up over the 3 games.

The yarkshire lot could put the collywobbles under them with a decent victory.

Aye

Ref set it off

Not saying ref was wrong but it was extremely harsh

And, i believe its kept them shits up

Tbf the keeper set it off, we moan how shit the refs are but he played by the rules. The keeper fucked up.

There was a game years when linesman gave off side, ref waved played on as keeper had the ball. Keeper walked out of area to take the free kick for the off side and ref gave hand ball

I’m fairly sure it was at Turf Moor and the FA had just made deliberate handball a red card offence. I think the incident led them to add “preventing a goal scoring opportunity” to the new law.

Remember Shearer" reffing" a game at Newcastle and deciding Jussi had held the ball for too long . The ref upheld it .

The only time I remember that ever happening .

They did yeah. I wrote a letter about it to When Saturday Comes a few months ago when they asked for suggestions of random referee decisions you've rarely if ever seen again since.

Writing letters into magazines definitely confirms me as ageing.

Don’t know if people are aware of this. A bwfc friend of my eldest, only 17, took his own life last week.

Horrifically tragic event. A minutes applause on 17 mins seems to be gathering momentum, which would be a nice touch.

God that's heartbreaking. RIP Aston son. 17, Jesus Christ.
