However our revenue will always be higher than Wigan and just watch their crowds drop off dramatically once they go down again and docked more points You can only piss with the cock you’ve got and theirs is struggling to break the zip. relegation, possibly further sanctions & reduction in spend and aims won’t be attractive to an already small fan base when flogging season tickets. Totally agree and looking at their forum 50% are not looking to rebuy season tickets next year
batton carrier
They will end up with about 5.5k fans if they drop. They are already making their excuses not to go. normal service will soon resume and the shirts will be reversed and they will be red. Either manure or Liverpool. FUCK THE TICS

FUCK THE TICS To be fair, whilst we’re currently one of the better supported ‘lower league’ teams, it wasn’t always like that. Our previous dalliance with 3rd and 4th level football in the 1980s saw us with crowds around that number and often significantly lower. Can't cancel a contract outside it and then move. In this situation though, I'm not sure what rules apply. No player in the right mind would walk away from a contract if he was unable to sign for anyone else and/or pick up a wage. as we know ourselves they just become creditors if they sit where they are

Yes but that was an era when getting 4 or 5k in the bottom two divisions was considered a good crowd. Our average crowd 85/86 was 4,847. Sounds very low but it was in the top half of the 92 league clubs! Burnley 3,200, Cardiff 3k. Palace, Boro, Blackburn, Huddersfield were all a division above us with less than 7k. Leeds 13k, Villa 15k. Very different times. On the plus side it was easy to decide to go to an away game the day before, very little planning required! stevieb
"Tics" ... 🤣 Massive karma from 2019. I'd much rather have Bury survive than this shower.
paulhanley
Nixon has run a pretty predictable story about a forthcoming squad cull at Wigan. The removal of the camouflage of them being a club of any size or import is beginning. By the start of next season in League 1 all that will be left will be the tinpot core. "Living within their (very meagre) means", in debt, letting most contracted first teamers leave, transfer embargo, wage cap, relying on kids & end cuts, -9, -12 or -15 points, gates of 3,500. Lovely, and as they say, jubbly.

I doubt they’ll even afford to pay the running costs of the stadium, think it cost us 2 million just to heat our stadium, how they afford something similar on 5k crowds? They really are in a pickle. 🤣 Edited March 26 by Mounts Kipper

Site Supporter Biggish Dave Posted March 29 Site Supporter Share Posted March 29 It appears like Morecambe are also skint and struggling to pay their players. Perhaps their weirdo fans can cultivate a rivalry with Wigan as they will be adversaries quite a lot in the coming years. Whether a take over is going through or not i'm not sure. Tyson Fury was rumoured to be putting some cash in?
