People who call the stadium "The Reebok" out of stubbornness are proper sad bastards. It's not been called that for years and Reebok couldn't give a Chinese shite about us.

Out of stubbornness doesn't come into it.

Out of habit,  out of forgetfulness I'll grant you but sad bastards for doing so?

Aye not sure its stubbornness just easier for the mind to pick the comfortable name.

Same way I call The Old England The Old England round here, even though its been called The Albion for over 10 years.

I agree.

The original name and it being the Reebok for 17 years sticks with a lot of folk.

I tried with Macron, but it never felt right.

And UNIBOL, well that’s felt weirder than Macron.

It’s now a stadium name that’s going to cease to exist soon. So I’m certainly not going to get into the habit of using it.

I suppose it’s an opposing view to @tomski’s, but I feel quite sad it doesn’t have a proper identity.

Does nobody else find themselves dodging the name? “I’m off to the Middlebrook watching The Whites?” On the odd occasion I’ve caught a taxi recently, I’ve used Middlebrook, Whites Hotel, The stadium.

But I get it. We go where the money takes us and I’m fine with that.

But there’s only 2 scenarios that would make me truly happy with its name. And that’s the Reebok again or fusing the new sponsor with something historical - ideally Nat Lofthouse.

Hadn’t ever thought about it much but now it feels awfully stupid that the stadium doesn’t have a non-sponsor name.

Stadium names are such a big part of clubs identities. I’m surprised that some lower div clubs still don’t have stadium sponsors though.

Hillsborough, Stadium of Light, Stadium MK, Fratton Park…

I think Hillsborough had one as part of their FFP dodging but I could be wrong.

Yeah he probably sold the stadium to himself, not sure if he renamed it.

Maybe sponsors are put off by the fact that stadiums that have been called something for so long won’t ever be called by their sponsor name.

Doubt many call the Britannia the Bet 365 stadium. Or many called St James Park the Sports Direct Arena.

Or maybe there’s also the fear of fan backlash that deters the club from accepting sponsorship naming rights.

Hogarth's will always be The Varsity (and occasionally Hogwarts)

May as well have done! It's weird how different types of alcohol has different effects, beer makes me want to be everyone's friend, jager makes me sad, tequila makes me angry. Got home last night and was apparently just whinging about all sorts. I'll stick to lager 😆

Don’t disagree I hate the commercialisation but that ground has been sponsored since it’s birth and after 25 years I’ve moved on. I think it is sad but it’s well down the list of modern football for me. I wanted it to be called new Burnden

Don’t really agree with the New Burnden stuff, if nothing else because it related to the district. Not sure Middlebrook Park has the same ring, mind, and Lostock Park sounds like a train station.

I’ll avoid mention of that lot down the road naming a stand after their old ground because they didn’t have any legendary players to take the honour.
