England cricket

Wandering around Sainsburys for half an hour waiting for my wife listening to TMS. In a world of my own. Probably looked suspicious but didn’t care. I retraced the steps I did for 25 years when it was Hicks. Tempted to take advantage of the free tickets for tomorrow but I remembered I had an important meeting. As it happens, 25,000 tickets sold/given in an hour.

Having watched last nights t20, i guess its temp stands for the test?

Are there any plans to do a proper job?

I was there today. Business not cricket. The temp stand is being erected again. It was taken down for the recent concerts. I was told it won’t be 10,000 capacity as previous. Maybe 8,000. As for the future, the Stretford End is difficult to develop because it’s used for concerts. The Brian Statham end will be finished next year.

Great photo. With regards to the temp stand, I wondered if there was another way they could build it and roll it in/out for different events. Having to erect it and then take it down between events is a bit mental. When you consider 8-10,000, that’s like the whole of the East Stand (upper and lower) combined.

I was there last night on the sofas and it looks like they've made a start on permanent stands either side.

Yep. It must be worth it though. It takes about a week to erect. Maybe one day they will come up with a better solution. The photo that I posted of the new hotel and seating area when it’s complete, is a scaled down version of the original plans. Cost, as always, being an issue.

It ain’t over yet. Got tickets for OT and Lords to come. I’ll let you know if Lords is better than the MCG😉

Love them both, but Lords is supreme.

best days cricket I ever had was Boxing Day, 2010.

The crowd seemed somewhat subdued throughout the game. Them racking up that score didn't help matters.

Funnily enough, I was at that very ground watching England take on the Aussies in 2005 (I think). That was arguably the hottest day I'd ever experienced at the time; pissed up blokes literally burning themselves in the sun, with concerned older women (no doubt mothers) imploring them to put on suncream that they were offering.

Glad it was a day/night game as it cooled down in the evening.

I was at the SCG in 2018. The reported temperature was 44 deg. Although Alastair Cook this week said it was 47 deg. Too hot to sit in the sun. The SCG  is designed so that you can watch the match on the concourse, in shade, and still watch the match. Joe Root suffered from dehydration as he was the only player on the field all day, batting/fielding.

Anyway, I’ve been asked to help out selling Lottery tickets tomorrow at OT.
If you’re going and you see me, buy a ticket (or more) and help out the club. It also means that I can watch the match when I’ve sold my allocation.😊
