I've no assets left to grow.

I suspect I'm not alone.

A record high FTSE doesn't feed the 4m UK children living in poverty, but as long you're OK...

You’re alone

everyone in the uk except you is buying a new car tomorrow

Improved pension performance means less given out in benefits to poorer pensioners.

Therefore more to spend elsewhere.

Irs weird that everything that makes western society tick is somehow irrelevant, counterproductive, unfair etc etc.

Alternative- no free markets, no personal businesses, everyone work for the government and get a fixed wage. That'll work.

I retired a couple of years ago, so my pensions are what they are. I got asked to go back to work a couple of days a week last April (just for a few weeks) and I'm still there. It's helped no end with my debts and paid for a couple of Spanish jaunts, but I can't do it for ever. I'm 69 this year and Mrs. F will be 73.

Like everyone elae we don't know how we're going to be fixed later on in the year.

I checked my pension balances today for the first time in about 10 months. The one I’m longer paying into (old job) is still below where it was at the start of 2022 (but better than where it was shortly after the Ukraine war started).

I’ve been discussing the COL with lads at work today, and one of them made a good point. How many families did you know 20/30 years ago that went on 3 or 4 foreign holidays a year? How many did you know with brand new Audis/Mercs/BMWs on the drive? How many went out for meals every weekend? I personally had 3 foreign holidays and my parents never had a flash car on the drive. Both had respectable jobs.

Theres no doubt some folk are struggling but are others saying they’re struggling because they can’t get that 3rd holiday booked or they’re having to downgrade their car. It’s fairly obvious for years many have been living beyond their means.

A few generations before that, having enough firewood to warm your cave was the high life.

As a species, we seek to improve and enjoy a better way of life as each generation passes.

Brexit seems to have got a lot of folk thinking life was better when we all had a bath in a big bucket once a month. Weird.

So what are you saying? If kids are homeless they should gather sticks and mud to build a shelter? Folk are allowed to be poor without living like a tribal child.

African kids should all go and live near the water rather than moaning about having to walk four hours each day to get there.

Try working for a housing provider like my step-daughter trying to help folk with their arrears. Help, not chase. Help

Its criminal that the following have become so much more expensive apparently so no way can they afford to pay the rent any more

  • Broadband
  • SKY
  • Netflix
  • Mobile charges
  • Lease costs on a new car cos who wants to buy an old banger
  • Meals out
  • Games consoles and the games
  • "Proper clothes" cos who wants their kid to look like a pov when the other kids in school have designer

Some folk are beyond help. Feel sorry for the genuine ones who get tarred with the same brush. There's decent folk out there really struggling. There's also a load of entitled scumbags

Both mine have left and bought their own homes. Fortunately for both, my mum gave each a gift of £10k towards their deposits.

I don’t doubt they’d still be here without that gift.
