Its going off the main topic a bit but at the moment there's not many teams or potential aways in Championship that really get me excited (I'm sure same could be said of us by fans of other teams if we were in there of course)

Get stuck there for a few seasons if your aspirations used to be PL and it can get seriously boring.

Just read he's on a 12 month rolling contract at Sunderland who want to keep him

They, like us, found out a lot of season tickets were sold to ‘Premier League’ supporters. It seems after a while in the doldrums, the positivity in our club has started to reap the rewards of high season ticket sales. I don’t think Blackburn have quite got to that stage yet.

Blackburn aren’t a patch on us supporters wise. Loads jumped ship after the venkys took them down.

In regards to Alex Neil. Supposedly still lives in Longridge. Longer deal, more money. Nearer home etc. makes sense if all true

Never gave sundlan lot a 2nd thought till last season and the game we declared.    Listening to the interviews before and after the game of their lot was hilarious.   Their massive club self importance and shouldn't be losing to a club like Bolton changed my thoughts on em.

I think its a bit generous to us to say we historically get the same crowds as WBA, Wolves, Stoke (but agree Charlton are smaller than us).  Whenever our paths have crossed in the same division in my time since the 80s, those 3 have got bigger crowds when other things have been equal.  When we were getting 5, 6, 7 or 8k in Div 3, those 3 were getting double figure crowds and their away support was always big too.  No shame in that, they are just slightly bigger than the likes of us, Blackburn, PNE, Burnley for me and so they should be with no huge clubs near them.

I think being in any division for years on end can get boring (see Everton) but I'd rather we were going to Burnley, Blackpool, PNE, Huddersfield, WBA, Stoke, Hull than 90% of teams in league one.  And its worth getting out of this league just to avoid the powder keg away days at the tinpot local grounds.

I spoke with a dyed in the wool Sunderland mate yesterday. He's flabbergasted. Though he's a big loyalty guy & couldn't understand any of the managerial dismissals over the decades ... then 100% behind the new guy & stating that the last one was, indeed, shite.

Firmly blames, yet again, the owners, who took ages to actually buy the club and now, apparently, aren't giving Neil funds. Certainly their ayer turnover in '22 has been loans and frees coming in, liabs returning & reducing the size of the playing staff. 

I'm not sure Stoke are doing either, tbh.

But manager exits, to a rival, days before a largely unused window closes is not a great situation.

4,500 is pretty much what everyone has had at Wigan for years ever since it was twigged that the concourse is a death trap (wasn’t designed as an away end)

That concourse is very uncomfortable.  The only other 2 that are as bad at biggish grounds in my experience is Everton and Villa - that was the worst/tiniest.  Out of interest, what difference should it make if its an away end?  If its full does it matter if its home or away fans?

Isn't the surprise that Sunderland have allowed it to happen?  If he was under a 2 or 3 year contract they could just refuse permission to speak to him.  Saying that, it works the other way, managers on 3 year deals lose 5 on the trot, get sacked and get a huge pay off that the club can't necessarily afford, so I'm not advocating long contracts in most circumstances.

I think the majority of it is people questioning why he wpuld choose to move from one club to the other. 

The statement from Sunderland stated there was a clause in his contract which left them powerless to do anything about it. And when the manager makes it clear he wants to leave I think that's pretty much it anyway.

It was designed to be the home family stand so no expectation for people to be hanging around on the concourse boozing and instead straight in and straight out with pop and crisps, particularly as you can take your booze to the seats for rugby game so that was fairly irrelevant.

Even when Latics were first promoted to the Premier League, the plan was for away fans to retain the East Stand (scoreboard stand) complete with 7,000 allocation and fenced-off parking and dedicated coach route, and then yon mon stood up on stage on his non-broken leg and said he was ‘claiming back the East Stand’ even though it had been the away section from day one.
