A few comments on how much fitter they were at the end, we ran out of steam etc…I thought this close season was the hardest yet to get our team as fit as possible and a squad to rotate to give players a rest ..does this follow that the more skill you’ve got I e villa players the fitter you must be , and were fitter than us ?. Also those  boring villa fans …grown men singing empty seats mi lud ,empty seats..wankers . Yippe yi  o holtenders in the sky.what a load of boring feckin brummies

I'm not convinced by the fitness argument so much these days. Clubs have access to sports scientists, dieticians etc.

Of course some of the most fit athletes may progress to the top clubs, but I don't see the gap like it used to be.

Once the goals go in against you, it's natural to feel deflated, whereas your opponents will get an adrenaline buzz and be boosted physically.

Yes, Premier Leagure players are fitter and faster and more talented than League 1 players. There are a multitude of reasons for that, and I think most of them are pretty obvious. If you think League 1 players should be as fit and talented as Premier League players, you need to sit down and have a think.

I think his post was about fitness only rather than fitness and talent.

He acknowledged their players would be better footballers than ours.

Having seen the third, he was poor

But still a solid 7 on the night

It just seems the thing to do these days to write players off

I think there's a LG1 or LG2 player in there somewhere but he needs some easy game time for confidence not playing against prem opposition and getting 4 twatted past him.

But I suspect Evatt maybe given him assurances when Traf resigned that he's getting the cup games.

Who knows.

I think the fitness element is more about being conditioned to play the game at that pace for 90 minutes. It is generally accepted that players need a period of playing to get to 'full match fitness' it is logical then to say that getting used to playing at the higher pace does not just happen. Add in better players use the ball better it just tips the balance.
Evatt talks about our style tiring out the opposition, they did that to us.

They'll also be a lot fitter than ours, regardless of talent. That's why they're playing in the Premier League and our players are playing in League 1.
