There were rumours that one or two players we signed were coming whilst they were still under contract, albeit a contract that was ending.

Not sure the club would make such a big issue, especially if he was approached by an agent in an "unofficial" capacity.

Should let him go then if it's true. Nothing to gain in keeping him on the books if he's not applying himself or pushing to be a regular starter. Evatt has shown before with Sarcevic that he won't put up with any nonsense. The fact John is still here suggests these Wrexham/sulk rumours are pure speculation.

Or maybe Wrexham won't pay him what he's currently being paid by us.

Have you forgotten about the transfer window?

Wait until January.

Did we not terminate his contract so he could join as a free agent as it suited all parties?

I can't remember

Yep.

The non-league window is longer but it still exists.

Regarding wage, it's all rumour but Wxm already have a number of players on £8-10k.

Maybe he was being greedy and wanted us to pay up his contract and we refused.

Maybe.

Who knows?  None of us, that's fur shure.

He'd have no grounds to have his contract paid up if he wanted it terminated so he could leave outside the window.

Probably, but that'd just be because it suited all parites rather than having anything to do with any transfer window.

If I remember correctly, non-league clubs can still sign players up until March.

no transfer window to non-league, if sarcevic was the rule rather than the exception?

Perhaps, but would Evatt want to lose a squad member if he can't replace him?

Suppose it depends upon the level of upset versus the the player's ability should he be needed.

out there and im not usually one for this shit but could bradley not be the new mcateer

Bradley does remind me of McAteer in playing style.  All action, great attitude, can dribble and tackle, quick thinking, similar running gaits, can pick sharp passes over shortish distances without being gifted for long passing like a Morley or Kelly.  Can score, but not noted for quality of shooting.  No left foot.

McAteer was a midfielder all day long but Liverpool had him playing as a full back, course he was happy to play any position for them, but it was a shame they probably didn't see him at his best.  Bradley is supposedly a full back but looks like a midfielder to me, very much in the McAteer mould, he could easily be a box to box central midfielder with his energy.

Be interesting if anyone can be arsed looking back at our results since the gambling rumours were publicised.

Things like that can affect focus in a club.

Its funny you mention this because a couple of weeks ago the same thought occured to me.

"Noise" in respect of those rumours peaked on twitter  in the days following an article in "The Athletic" reporting a trial collapsing on 16th september.

League Results to September 17    P 9   W 6   D2   L 1

With the Portsmouth match cancelled we did not play another League match until October 1st

League results from October 1          P 7   W 2   D1   L 4

It would be very easy to draw the wrong conclusion from Statistics such as these

But I think to assume it has had no impact whatever might also be wrong.

NB - I am not sure given that a previous thread on these rumours was taken down that this is a discussion we want to be having ?

Started a new job few weeks ago and spoke to a blackburn fan today.

He said the new manager wants them to play out from the back but they don’t have the players to do it. Seen similar comments about Evatts Bolton over the last few years.

Theyre like 3rd in the championship. Makes you wonder at what level do you have the players capable to play out from the back? I would’ve thought any professional footballer worth their salt should be able to play a pass from the back now. But I suppose everyone has different strengths and weaknesses.

Bet there’s a few PL clubs fans who also say the same thing

Got to take into account the quality of the opposition too. How well they can close, then break on goal if they win it back.

I reckon "brand Evatt" has been tinkered with a few times over the last couple of years and TBH I'm not sure what it is any more  but what has been consistent is that he's always had high ambitions re playing style although he seems to have realised that you need the players to do it. He's more horses for courses than play like Barca these days.

He's had to make compromises and frustrating as that is, he hasn't done too badly overall without throwing massive money at the problem.

There are plenty at every level, all capable of playing it at a different standard.

Some footballers are just wired up to hoof it

Remember some pics of Ericsson and his assistant in an England match looking on baffled and a lip reader reckons they were saying "why can't they pass to each other instead of playing long balls"

Also remember chatting to a wolves fan when hoddle was in charge who reckoned he was a great manager but his style of play was light years ahead of what the squad was capable of, so they just looked shit trying to do stuff they couldn't

Always difficult to gauge as it’s easy to remember the cock ups but I’d struggle to remember the goals we score from this.

It does look horrific when it goes wrong but surely you are more likely to lose possession booting it up top than ensuring it goes to a man.
