Cos the prisons are full

We are going to jail more people

Few years later, theres nowhere to jail people

This is absolute fucking basics

How are they still getting away with it

Its like finding ways to get more people into hospitals without finding ways to get em out

Or increasing testing capacity without the labs to process tests

Etc etfuckingcetera

Austerity has a lot to answer for.  The pandemic really rubbed salt into the wound. I won't mention the B word.

Talking of prisons, some mad cleaner bloke was telling me about this gaff last week.

The main mon of El Salvador has pretty much nailed the cartels and drug gangs and lumped them all in these super prisons.

Looks lovely.

Jesus. Wouldn't want to be around when that inevitably kicks off.

I suppose you could point to a lack of funding

Im more looking at the lack of foresight

Jail more people youre going to need more places

The police don’t have any resources so that will help. For example, only 6% of burglaries lead to someone being charged in a recent study.

Nailed it pal. Let more and more illegal immigrants in quick, especially from Albania. That'll fix it.

Just a quick old Bolty fact check for you folks.

All nationalities in UK prisions is just over 80,659

Of which all foreign nationals make up 12% at just under 9,682. Of this 10k, 1,336 are Albanian. Which, in the light of being balanced, is the highest foreign nationality at just under 14%.

So, all in all, this means that Albanian prisioners make up an eye wateringly grand total of 1.6% of the current prision population in the UK.

The next is Polish at 800 odd, then Romanian and then Irish, to be sure.

Surely if it’s uk prisons, then the Irish total would be inflated in anycase as it would include prisons in Northern Ireland full of Irish people?

genuine data question, not a political one 👍

The data is taken from English and Welsh prisons only as NI and Scotland prision services are devolved.

Sooooooooooo....

a) Its still a very small number regardless, not one that is causing the collapse of the prision service.

b) If anyone is concerned about this growth, then perhaps look at the people who have been in charge of policy since 2010. If it bothered me at all, I'd be asking them.
