Duck Egg
I seem to recall him posting what a shithole the UK had become by the time he'd left and that the writing was on the wall. Maggie was in power and had been for around 8 or 9 years by then. It was all Labour's fault though, obvs

I know that it will be argued that they brought us the NHS. You then have to ask yourself how much you value it. Yes, I am confident that a majority of Brits are both emotionally and loyally entwined with it and I can see plenty of benefits. Conversely, I can see some absolute negatives - cost and wastefulness being at the top of the list. Having lived away from that system for a long time now, not convinced at all that it is all that it is cracked up to be or the best possible health system available. I know full well that I will be in a significant minority here but hey, that's a good thing these days isn't it? What benefit can I claim as a persecuted minority? Other than that, I would be struggling to think of anything that does anything other than sound right and just but turns out to be a fucking disaster in the long run. All this 'broad church' and 'international socialism' dogma always leads to the same thing. Multi millionaire 'brothers' who heartily sing the Red Flag and beseech the sheep to keep paying their couple of quid a week to their party's paymasters. Financial mayhem from a myriad of woeful decisions including questionable support for all manner of madcap groups, propping up failing industries etc. etc. Unions having way too large a say in running the country and that can never end well. Fuck me, I've just realised I could have simply said 'no'.

I come nowhere near your level of anti Brit sentiment. You are out on your own and number one on a pedestal in that regard (from a WWays perspective). What I most definitely said was that when I was headhunted was that we weighed up the pro's and cons and came out on the side of giving our kids a better future which, by the way, has come to pass. Interesting to know how how many posters kids are mortgage free before turning 40? Other factors in that consideration? Outdoor living, space, better weather - all the usual stuff we Brits crave. I did also say that immigration was a consideration and, knowing that Casino gets agitated by this, will repeat it. I thought that what I then considered burgeoning immigration (in retrospect, I didn't know what 'burgeoning' actually meant it seems!) would have a deleterious effect on my kids opportunities and access to services. All that I have seen since has reinforced that opinion. The decision was the right one. Nevertheless, Bolton will always be 'home'. Now then, if you want to switch the debate to Bolton Town Centre and Newport Street, yes - I will definitely be in the 'shithole' camp. You live in a country that’s population is 96.7% immigrants. the 3.3% are natives that you have, in the past, referred to as pisscans and scroungers. Just for balance, like. Just for balance, like. Balance? That suggests two options/sides/possibilities which is not a good prognosis where you are involved given previous evidence. I do agree however that I am an immigrant. Not an illegal one though - one who was sought out. Even then I had to prove that I could support myself, bring some filthy lucre with me and not in any way become a burden on the Australian state. Slightly different then to an Albanian criminal or an economic migrant from the Middle East and beyond ditching all documents and forms of identification and crossing the English Channel on a lilo inflatable mattress wouldn't you agree? Once again you have gone off on one you silly cunt. Revisit what I have said. the city ones yes. Those who live the traditional lifestyle out in 'the bush' no (although the despised 'activists' who are often only one sixteenth indigenous do stir up enough shit to get taxpayers money spent on upgraded accommodation for the bush mob which they generally never wanted and wreck in a very short time by burning the floorboards as firewood etc. Think 1970's Padbury Way). Not in Crawley
It's one country I have absolutely no desire whatsoever to visit. Maybe its because there are so many Australian's in London and aside from one or two I've found them to be generally insufferable. Also, imagine being the country that sought Bolty out and took him off our hands? I suppose we should be grateful, I wouldn't seek him out if he lived on the same street. Did 3 weeks there and it is brilliant. Biggest issue was in Sydney young posh kids doing the backpacking thing on daddy's credit card. We just did Melbourne, Sydney and Barrier Reef. Bloke sat in plane next to me on way out was going seeing his daughter for 2 days ! Flying Thursday coming back Sunday !

mickbrown
I did three weeks in Melbourne and Sydney. It was ace. Looked at working there but as I said before, the numbers didn't work. Quite fancy retiring there. That definitely might be an option. Obviously on the other side of the country from our resident koala botherer. Fuck me, I've just realised I could have simply said 'no'. That last sentence made me laugh, you’ve become me. Socialists movements have brought us plenty. Strange that all you can think of is the NHS. Weekends, shorter working days, holidays, free healthcare… the list could go on. I’m not a socialist worker type, but I’ve never understood the every man for himself Tory mentality that puts responsibility onto everyone else. Humanity has never been existed like that, goes against our nature. fair points that the NHS isn’t the be all and end all. There are other ways and not all its problems are the fault of the Tories. It’s still no secret that they have been deliberately underfunding it to cause its collapse and justify privatisation. Jeremy Hunt wrote a whole book about it. They massively underestimated public opinion and now the institution is in a mess.

They massively underestimated public opinion and now the institution is in a mess. The current bunch of Tories are responsible for years of neglect across public services. The initial need for this was the austerity policies following the banking crisis ( can argue all day if austerity was needed). It is only when you need to use these services you realise how fucked up they are. The NHS will always grab the headlines, the delays in processing asylum applications is now manifesting itself in the bills we are paying to house applicants the list goes on Is there an area of public services that has a slick on line service or phones that get answered in less than 209 rings ? HMRC have fucked my tax up and it ain't a simple solution so need to talk it through with someone . 5 times I have called now and each time it has been over an hour to get the phone answered, then they have various systems and people are only trained in one, so self assessment to PAYE is disjointed. They are now trying to catch up and it is a real mess , not really down to Rishi but a mess he has inherited from his own party. We need a change more than anytime I can remember. Anytime I have to call HMRC, I have a similar experience. It really is awful trying to speak to anybody there. I was on the phone to them for about 2 hours the other week......and that was after I'd been fucking around on the HMRC Gateway online platform for an hour or so
