Lt. Aldo Raine
No, but I wish we had a proper unofficial name for the stadium that people could use instead of the sponsored name (not the Reebok as that's still a brand name). We already have that with "the Reebok" but I think it's a bit naff. Similar to how City suppporters used to refer to the Emptihad as Eastlands. Even my kids call it that now, and they never even went when it was called The Reebok.

In my experience, people use Middlebrook for the retail park rather than just the stadium. Was Westlands the name of the area before it was built on? I know it won't catch on by the way, I'd just prefer it if we had some kind of ideally, geographic unofficial name.

Not a clue mate, was just taking on board your point and making a couple of suggestions.

No. It was 'Red Moss', a large peat farm. Not sure anything with 'Red' in the title is going to work. You'll find 'Middlebrook' on maps relating to a small river there, but, as a Horwicher, I can assure you it was unknown to normal people. The Reebok, The 'bok, The Ground seem to be the most common locally.

Whitestar
My mother had never set foot in the Reebok in her nelly, but she would always refer to that area as the Reebok. Eg, " I've been to the Reebok Asda" "Or i got the buzz up the Reebok for a mooch round shops".

Just nearer de-Haviland way than the Moss. It's possible the landfill filled-in what the Moss had left behind. We used to play on the peat farm. There was row upon row of trenches, with the extracted peat briquettes layered in 4ft walls drying out. It allowed for great games of "Grand National" as we hurdled these walls, trying not to fall into the watery ditches as you landed. Looking back after the 'race' we'd left quite an untidy mess. There was also a real wild-west push-me, pull-me narrow gauge railway thingie (think early scenes of 'Blazing Saddles') which was also great fun to wizz along on. Did you used to go on your pushbike on the coal (I guess?) tips on Lostock Lane opposite the old Bromilow? Many a memory from that as a kid in the 70s, th'uppy downies as they were nicknamed.
